The Jets will be without wide receiver Denzel Mims when they take the field Sunday against the Buffalo Bills in Week 1. And his absence could potentially be lengthy.

Mims, who worked his way back from a hamstring injury, practiced on Thursday before injuring his other hamstring.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, head coach Adam Gase foreshadowed the official injury report on Friday, saying it wasn't looking good for Mims when it comes to his availability for Week 1, and that placing him on IR could be an option.

"I feel like s--t for him because I feel like he worked really hard to get back, and for it to be the other hamstring. ... I hate seeing it happen to him like that," Gase said.

Before suffering his latest hamstring injury, Mims was making strides in practice.

“I thought he was headed in the right direction mentally. It’s a shame because yesterday when he was doing routes on air I saw him really coming off the ball," Gase explained about how Mims looked on Thursday. "I was getting fired up.”

The Jets' receiver depth was already dangerously thin before the Mims injury, and they'll now likely be trotting out Jamison Crowder, Chris Hogan, and Breshad Perriman as their top three wide receiver options for Sam Darnold.

MAYE QUESTIONABLE WITH CALF/ANKLE INJURY, WILLIAMSON STILL OUT

Safety Marcus Maye practiced on Friday, which Gase said was a good sign, but he is officially listed as questionable for Sunday's game against Buffalo. Guard Alex Lewis is the only other Jet listed as questionable, as he deals with a shoulder injury.

LB Avery Williamson did not practice on Friday due to a hamstring injury, and he is one of four Jets already ruled out for Sunday, joining Mims, quarterback Joe Flacco (neck), and running back La'Mical Perine (ankle).
