The Mets and St. Lucie (Florida) County reached an agreement Tuesday to renovate First Data Field, where the Mets spend spring training, and keep the team there until 2042, according to the TC Palm's Keona Gardner.

Amid a report last week that indicated the Mets could have "blown up" their stadium renovation deal, the two sides were to bring forth a contract to county commissioners on Tuesday that outlines the renovation project, according to Gardner.

"We're pleased with today's outcome," the Mets said in a statement. "Thanks to the St. Lucie County Board of County Commissioners and the county legal team that worked with our team over the holiday. We are thankful for the continued support of our fans and the local businesses."

The project is expected to cost $57 million, and the Mets will contribute $2 million, according to county documents obtained by Gardner.

St. Lucie County extended its lease with the Mets for 25 years and committed $55 million in renovations to the field in November 2016.

The renovations are expected to include major- and minor-league clubhouses, a new practice field, a connector for fans around the outfield and a Little League/softball complex.

Any renovation costs that surpass the $55 million St. Lucie County will contribute will be the Mets' onus, according to Gardner.

"I really don't want to spend one penny more (than $55 million)," St. Lucie County commissioner Sean Mitchell told Gardner.

The Mets have held spring training at First Data Field (formerly Tradition Field) since it opened in 1988.
