The New York Mets placed infielder Damion Easley on the bereavement list on Tuesday and selected Chip Ambres' contract from Triple-A New Orleans of the Pacific Coast League. Ambres will wear No. 36 and will join the club immediately in San Diego.
Easley is currently with his father, Raymond, in Riverside, California. Easley's stay on the list is for a minimum of three days and a maximum of seven days.
Ambres, 27, hit .272 (82-301) with 60 runs scored, 18 doubles, 16 home runs, 49 RBI, with 46 walks and 71 strikeouts in 85 games for the Zephyrs.
Chip was signed as a Minor League free agent on December 16, 2006.
In 53 major league games with the Kansas City Royals in 2005, Ambres batted .241 (35-145) with eight doubles, four home runs, nine RBI, with 16 walks and 32 strikeouts.
