Mets

The Mets have some promising young catchers throughout the organization who can also swing the bat. Francisco Alvarez homered for the third straight game with Syracuse and is headed back to the big leagues. St. Lucie's Vincent Perozo went deep against Palm Beach and Ronald Hernandez ripped a bases-clearing triple in High-A Brooklyn's rout of Hub City.

After the Mets 3-2 win over the Reds, Juan Soto broke down his heads up baserunning that resulted in the go-ahead run, Ryne Stanek on picking up Edwin Diaz after the Reds tied the game, Luis Torrens on his clutch all-around game and Pete Alonso updates the thumb injury that kept him out of the starting lineup on Sunday.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza had the contact play on in the eighth inning and said Juan Soto executed it perfectly in scoring the go-ahead run. He praised catcher Luis Torrens for settling things down after Reds had tied the game on an Edwin Diaz HBP. Mendoza thought starter David Peterson battled despite not having in usual command to grind out six innings.

A great baserunning play by Juan Soto in the eighth inning helped the Mets salvage the finale of their series with the Reds 3-2. The win broke a three-game losing streak as they also got key contributions from Luisangel Acuna, Luis Torrens and Ryne Stanek for the victory.

For Mets starter Clay Holmes, finishing off his outings has eluded him of late. Saturday against the Reds, he walked the leadoff hitter twice and both times they came around to score. Holmes feels he has to work on making quicker adjustments the third time through the order. Brandon Nimmo was disappointed the team did not find a way to win on David Wright's special day. On the lack of offensive production, it comes down to "getting the big hit" and that's been a thorn in the Mets side all year long.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said he had tears in his eyes watching the David Wright ceremony prior to the game. His Mets team of 2025 however appears to be out of sync.  Francisco Lindor's swing appears to be "getting long" according  to Mendoza and the main reason he's mired in a slump. He was not happy with Luis Torrens' throwing error on a pick-off play, observing  that it was not the "right situation" for that play.

For the second straight game, the Mets jumped out to a quick lead only to see Cincinnati's offense deliver the timely hits while the Mets continued to sputter with men in scoring position in a 5-2 loss. Defensively, Luis Torren's throwing error on a pick-off attempt led to two runs and Ronny Mauricio's failure to start a double play led to another run.

An emotional David Wright has his No. 5  unveiled joining the pantheon of Mets legends to have their jersey retired.

 David Wright tells SNY's Steve Gelbs that his No. 5 jersey being retired is "surreal."  He also admitted to being "a little nervous" about giving his speech in front of Mets fans but his appreciation for their "blue collar support" made New York a special place to play.

For pitcher Carlos Rodon, his personal highlight was seeing his son's excitement on the field during Monday's Home Run Derby. Manager Aaron Boone was thrilled to have Hall-of-Famer and former Yankees skipper Joe Torre be a part of the game., even making a pitching change. Boone added it was great to see the camaraderie amongst the players and see their excitement at the end-of-game HR Derby that broke a 6-6 tie.
