For Mets starter Clay Holmes, finishing off his outings has eluded him of late. Saturday against the Reds, he walked the leadoff hitter twice and both times they came around to score. Holmes feels he has to work on making quicker adjustments the third time through the order. Brandon Nimmo was disappointed the team did not find a way to win on David Wright's special day. On the lack of offensive production, it comes down to "getting the big hit" and that's been a thorn in the Mets side all year long.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said he had tears in his eyes watching the David Wright ceremony prior to the game. His Mets team of 2025 however appears to be out of sync.  Francisco Lindor's swing appears to be "getting long" according  to Mendoza and the main reason he's mired in a slump. He was not happy with Luis Torrens' throwing error on a pick-off play, observing  that it was not the "right situation" for that play.

For the second straight game, the Mets jumped out to a quick lead only to see Cincinnati's offense deliver the timely hits while the Mets continued to sputter with men in scoring position in a 5-2 loss. Defensively, Luis Torren's throwing error on a pick-off attempt led to two runs and Ronny Mauricio's failure to start a double play led to another run.

The Mets 8-4 loss to Cincinnati on Friday night was a game in which very little right for the home team. Starter Sean Manaea lamented his lack of "efficiency" and command with a strict pitch count which meant being pulled after four innings and 69 pitches. Reliever Alex Carrrillo had a night to forget, coughing up five earned runs including three long balls. Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor credited Reds starter Nick Lodolo with keeping the lineup off-balance, allowing just four hits over seven innings.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza likened Sean Manaea status to "a pitcher in spring training," and he has no intention of rushing the lefty as he works his way back. What he was hoping for was couple of innings from reliever Alex Carillo but what he got was Carillo allowing three home runs and five earned runs in an 8-4 loss. The Mets get much going offensively which the manager attributed to chasing pitches out of strike zone being "in between" at the plate.

The second half of the season for the Mets began with a thud, as they got overpowered by the Reds 8-4. Sean Manaea made his first start of the season and struck out six over four innings but reliever Alex Carrillo proceeded to surrender five earned runs, including three homers.
