Pete Alonso broke the Mets franchise HR record, hitting his 253rd home run in the third inning as New York topped the Atlanta Braves 13-5. The Mets hit six home runs on the night, including two from Alonso as well as two from Francisco Alvarez.

He credited catcher Ben Rice with a great job behind the plate, reminding him to stay aggressive "in the zone." Rice in turn, cited Cody Bellinger with providing an immediate spark, going deep in the first inning. Bellinger simply stated that it was good to finally get the results while putting in the work.

That coupled with a nearly three-hour rain delay turned the Yankees 7-4 win over the Rays into a marathon. Manager Aaron Boone is "excited" about the new additions to the relief core with closer Devin Williams adding that Camilo Doval throws "a hundred miles an hour." Giancarlo Stanton offered that the win made the endless wait worthwhile.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman spoke with the media about the team's acquisitions of relievers David Bednar, Camilo Doval and Jake Bird at the trade deadline. Cashman felt the bullpen was a critical area of need and gives manager Aaron Boone more flexibility to mix and match later in the game. While he declared that no one was untouchable, his praise of top prospect Spencer Jones indicated that Cashman was certainly not close to dealing him.

New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn provided injury updates on Tyrod Taylor and Allen Lazard at the joint practice with the New York Giants. Third-string QB Brady Cook also left with an ankle injury, but Glenn stressed the injury was not serious.
