The Rangers announced on Thursday night that Michael Grabner has been traded to the New Jersey Devils for a second round pick in 2018 and prospect Yegor Rykov.

Rykov, 20, was a fifth-round pick in 2016 by the Devils. He currently plays for St. Petersburg in the KHL where he has 9 assists in 47 games this season.

2/22/18 | 5:54PM: Darren Dreger spoke about Rick Nash and said, "you have to look at the market specific to Rick Nash and wonder if it's not being hampered by some of the other big players in play like Erik Karlsson or Ryan McDonagh. The ask on Rick Nash is a first round pick, an "A" prospect and a "B" prospect. Perhaps Jeff Gorton and the Rangers are willing to soften a bit there."(TSN)

9:50AM: "In Rick Nash, the Rangers want a first round pick and a prospect and they may want more than that, depends on the team." (TSN 1290)

2/20/18 | Pierre LeBrun said on TSN that there is a lot of interest in Rick Nash with less than a week to go before the deadline.

2/22/18 | 5:56PM: Pierre LeBrun spoke about Ryan McDonagh and said, "what is interesting and it's what I would do if I was the New York Rangers, the top three teams in the Atlantic Division have shown varying degrees of interest in Ryan McDonagh. Tampa Bay, Boston, Toronto but there are two other teams two that have kept tabs with the Rangers on McDonagh. This is a hockey deal, not a rental deal, multi-asset, certainly when it comes to the Bruins, they are still in on McDonagh but the price has to go down, and I am sure the Rangers are saying that they have to bring their offer up." (TSN)

4:35PM: Darren Dreger said that Toronto isn't likely to move one of their "big core pieces" but wonders how Lou Lamoriello would react if asked about Kasperi Kapanen and/or Travis Dermott. (FanRag)

10:53AM: Pierre LeBrun says that McDonagh does not need to approve a trade to Toronto so there are no issues if the Leafs decide to "get serious on an offer to the Rangers."

2/21/18 |7:09PM: Dreger said on TSN1050, "I believe that the Leafs remain and are keenly, keenly interested in Ryan McDonagh. What will have to happen for Toronto to acquire him? Good question. You are talking about 3-4 pieces, there is no urgency from New York to trade Ryan McDonagh. They are willing to listen and if Lou Lamoriello is willing to offer the 3-4 assets, and they are not going to be cheap. Throw out a prospect, who is the piece that fills into that group of four? It will be significant or the Rangers won't make that deal with Toronto or anybody else."

2/19/18 | 9:45AM: Craig Custance said on WGR Radio in Buffalo on Monday morning that he feels there is a "real chance" that McDonagh gets moved because trading him now would give the acquiring team at least two potential playoff runs.

He added that if the Rangers are looking to get a return similar to what they gave up for Keith Yandle, that kind of deal has to happen now.

Reports indicate that the Ottawa Senators are listening to potential trade offers on Erik Karlsson as Karlsson is slated to be a UFA following next season.

Pierre LeBrun writes at The Athletic that the Rangers are paying attention to the Karlsson situation because it would have an impact on a potential Ryan McDonagh trade.

While LeBrun notes that Karlsson and McDonagh are different players, there are only "so many teams willing to pay big assets now before the deadline for a top-four stud defenceman."

Rumors suggest that it would take a "King's Ransom" to acquire Karlsson and that an acquiring team may also have to take on Bobby Ryan's contract (4-years and $7.25 million per). (TSN)

On Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday:

  • Elliotte Friedman said, "Ryan McDonagh is one of the biggest names on the market right now, a lot of teams are looking at Boston and saying a) they can do it, we've mentioned Tampa, and b) there could be a fit on the left side of the Boston defense."
  • Nick Kypreos said, "Joe Resnick may be the most popular agent the next few weeks because he has the hottest and biggest fish in the trade market in Rick Nash. It appears that Nashville seems to be leading the charge in interest for Rick Nash, followed by Dallas. It's not necessarily a money thing with him in terms of their interest in maybe re-signing him, we know he has made almost $90 million in his career so it's really a chance to win a Stanley Cup."
  • Host David Amber said that "Nash in Nashville makes sense to me."

On TSN's Insider Trading on Thursday, the following was said about the Rangers:

  • Darren Dreger said on Rick Nash, "Rick Nash's agent is a popular agent, maybe the most popular agent in the NHL right now just given the fact that Nash does have the contract and trade protection. I'm told that Resnick has spoken to at least 8, maybe 10 teams already who do have interest in Nash. As far Nash and his interest, I believe that it's the Nashville Predators #1 and perhaps the Dallas Stars #2."
  • Dreger on 25 scouts being at MSG on Wednesday, "25 scouts were at Wednesday's game so the league is paying close attention to the business dealings of GM Jeff Gorton and media has targeted Rick Nash and to a certain degree Michael Grabner, but you have to look at the other pieces. I'm hearing that JT Miller, a very serviceable winger is generating a bit of a buzz around the NHL and there is intrigue around Chris Kreider as well. He is still recovering from the blood clot in his right arm, expected to return in perhaps in mid-March, there might be a low level deal there."

10:20PM: On NBCSN on Wednesday, Bob McKenzie spoke about the Rangers and said:

  • "A lowercase "r" rebuild. It's not a teardown. Let's make it perfectly clear here, Jeff Gorton, the GM of the Rangers and his management team are not looking at burning this thing down and bottoming out for 3-5 years like a lot of franchises have done. He is most certainly in the mode in listening on anybody, I would go so far to say this, there is only one untouchable on the New York Rangers and that is Henrik Lundqvist. We will see rentals flying out the door, Rick Nash, Michael Grabner, Nick Holden, those guys will be dealt before the deadline. Jeff Gorton will listen on Ryan McDonagh, he will listen on Mats Zuccarello and he is going to listen on some of the younger guys like JT Miller, Chris Kreider and others. I can't imagine a deal that would get Brady Skjei out of New York any time soon but I also know that at this time the Rangers are not shutting down any possibilities and their quest right now is to get as many first and second round picks, prospects and young players as they can to try and reload over the next number of years."

6:30PM: Elliotte Friedman was on SiriusXM earlier today and said that he thinks Rick Nash will be traded from the Rangers by the deadline but that the "biggest question is if" he returns in the offseason.

Friedman adds, "The Rangers like him, obviously his son likes being in New York. I think the biggest question is going to be does he go back next season and I wouldn't be surprised if Grabner gets traded and the same thing happens there." (SiriusXM)

On who could go after Nash, Friedman said "I think Nashville will be in it. I think St. Louis will be in it. It all comes down to where he is willing to go. I think San Jose, if Joe Thornton is coming back, Joe Thornton and Rick Nash are tight. I think those are two guys that would love to play with each other. I think there are a lot of options there. Normally I would put Calgary there but they don't have a high pick. I think there's going to be a lot of interest in Nash, I think Nashville is a team that's really looking at things and it actually makes a lot of sense to me." (SiriusXM)
