Manhattan coach Steve Masiello sat courtside for the SNY Invitational championship game last month and had a front-row seat for Aaron Walker's tournament MVP performance.

While other Division 1 coaches were either slow to perceive Walker's winning ways -- or completely out of touch -- Masiello appreciated the talented Cardozo guard and ultimately landed a verbal pledge from him on Tuesday.

"I believe in the coach and he believes in me," the 6-foot-1, 200-pound senior guard told me by phone after committing. "I asked myself, 'What am I waiting for?' I visited [last Thursday] and I loved it, and I was ready to commit that day."

NEW YORK -- As he has done for much of the past 35 years, Cardozo High School head basketball coach Ron Naclerio showed up for a game on Friday night.

For a change, though, his win-loss record wasn't on the line.

The winningest PSAL basketball coach in history was honored by the Nets before they took on the Knicks at Barclays Center. The Nets honored Naclerio for his success and his contributions to the city over the course of nearly four decades.

Highlights of the championship game of the eighth-annual SNY Invitational between Cardozo and Christ the King.

NEW YORK - It was déjà vu all over again.

Aaron Walker made another game-winning play. Cardozo beat Christ the King for the second time in as many weeks. And Cardozo is the SNY Invitational champion for the second straight year.

Cardozo defeated Christ the King 66-63 at the SNY Invitational Championship at City College of New York behind Walker's 20 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and four steals. A week ago Friday, Cardozo edged Christ the King, 67-65, on a last-second tip-in by Walker.

GEICO SportsNite: Second semi 00:01:37
Highlights of the second semifinal game of the SNY Invitational between Benjamin Cardozo and Mount Vernon.

NEW YORK -- Ron Naclerio will get just what he wanted: a rematch with Christ the King.

Aaron Walker overcame his late-game free throw shooting woes and knocked down the game-winning free throw to give Cardozo a 70-69 victory over Mount Vernon in the SNY Invitational semifinals at City College. Cardozo will face Christ the King -- a team it defeated last Friday on a game-winning alley-oop layup at the buzzer -- in the SNY Invitational championship on Saturday at 4 p.m.

Cardozo will also get a chance to defend its SNY Invitational championship from last season.

NEW YORK -- If next Saturday's potential Christ the King-Cardozo SNY Invitational final is anything like Friday's game between the two Queens schools, fans are in for an all-time classic.

A buzzer beating alley-oop layup from Monmouth signee Ray Salnave to senior Aaron Walker gave the Judges a 67-65 victory over the Royals at Christ the King on Friday night, capping off a wild game that saw six lead changes in the final four minutes alone.

Christ the King (18-1), which lost its first game of the season on Tuesday to Queens HIgh School of Teaching, was ranked No. 19 in the nation this week by USA Today. They are also the reigning SNY Invitational champions.
