David Beatty has narrowed down his list of schools to five, with Georgetown, UConn, Maryland, Indiana, and La Salle in contention to land the shooting guard.

Beatty spent last year playing at Saint Benedict's Prep in Newark, NJ, but has yet to announce what his plans are for his senior year.

Beatty, a 6-foot-4, 200-pound combo guard, is a four-star recruit. The Philadelphia native is considered a top 100 guard in the Class of 2017.

PHILADELPHIA - David Beatty cut his list to eight schools late last month, but that doesn't mean it can't still grow.

The Philadelphia native and star combo guard at St. Benedict's Prep led Philly Pride to a win over Team Takeover late Saturday afternoon at the Elevate Hoops Summer Showdown, then clarified his recruiting situation.

"I'm still open, but I cut my list to eight schools because that's just who I'm interested in," said Beatty, who is a top-100 recruit and top-3 combo guard nationally according to 247sports.com's composite rankings. "I'm still open, so if any other school comes in the mix, I might be interested.

Quade Green, the 6-foot point guard from Philadelphia (PA) Neumann-Goretti and the PSA Cardinals AAU program, will visit Kentucky unofficially on Wednesday-Thursday and could pick up an offer on the trip.

"He'll be there Wednesday and Thursday," Goretti coach Carl Arrigale said Monday on The 4 Quarters Podcast.. "I just talked to coach [Tony] Barbee [Monday] and I'm supposed to talk to Cal. It seems to be moving in that direction [of an offer]. Nothing's official yet. Once they get him in the office and find out what his thinking is and what he's thinking about.

"I know they do feel like their backcourt this year [Isaiah Briscoe, Malik Monk and De'Aaron Fox] is going to be talented enough to all be gone possibly next year so they're looking for players to come in and play. They see him as a Tyler Ulis maybe with a couple more inches, which is probably a pretty good comparison. He's got the guts of burglar. He plays really hard, he's not afraid of any moment and he watched the Kentucky teams with Tyler out there. They see him as being a guy who can play that similar role for them the next few years."

David Beatty, a 6-foot-4 Class of 2017 combo guard from Newark (N.J.) St. Benedict's Prep, visited UCLA this week, and will trip to UConn on Monday, he told SNY.tv.

Beatty triped to UCLA on Tuesday after playing at the Pangos All-American Camp. UCLA also hosted Gary Trent Jr., Charles Bassey, Nassir Little, Cody Reilly, Theo Johns, Kevin Samuels and Jacobi Gordon earlier this week.

"They got good history," Beatty said. "A lot of players went there and they put the most people in the NBA, so that might be something I look into."

St. Benedict's Prep junior David Beatty is one of the top shooting guards in the Class of 2017. He will be contributing periodically to ZAGSBLOG going forward. Here is his first Player Blog.

What's up, guys? It's your boy DB himself. I'm here doing my first player blog with ZAGSBLOG today!

I made the jump from Philadelphia, Pa., to Newark, N.J., and I must say, Newark is not that much different than Philadelphia. This move was warranted to prepare me for college in a year both on and off the court. I love it here at St. Benedict's Prep! The faculty and coaching staff treat me great, it's like a second home.
