ROSELLE, N.J. -- Rutgers and St. John's went early -- and big -- for Class of 2018 Roselle Catholic forward Naz Reid.

St. John's was three deep, as head coach Chris Mullin and assistants Matt Abdelmassih and Dan Matic were at Roselle Catholic on Friday night to watch Naz Reid and 2019 point guard Khalil Whitney, a Chicago transplant, to whom they offered a scholarship.

On Saturday, Mullin and Abdelmassih will head to Florida to see Class of 2017 commit Zach Brown, the former UConn pledge who committed to St. John's on July 21.

NEW YORK - Naz Reid was among the biggest people - and names - on hand Wednesday night at the Entertainers Basketball Classic at the famed Rucker Park.

The 6-foot-11, 220-pound Class of 2018 big man arrived with his Sports U teammates Jahvon Quinerly and Louis King. Reid will be back in New York City on Saturday for the Big Strick Classic at Gauchos Gym.

That Reid is healthy and on the court at all now is good news. He displaced his left kneecap during an Elevate Hoops event in Philadelphia in July.

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. -- After tweaking his leg in Philly last weekend, Naz Reid returned on Thursday for the Sports U 16s and had Kentucky coach John Calipari among those watching him.

"It's getting better," the 6-foot-9 Class of 2018 forward from Roselle (N.J.) Catholic said at the UAA Finals, where he sat out a game on Thursday morning before returning later in the day against the Florida Vipers. "I'm expecting to play in our next game [Thursday]. It's feeling better, but we will see. One moment it feels good, the next it's a bit sore. I'm going to do some stretching today and see how it goes, if it doesn't hurt, I'll be good to go."

Playing alongside Louis King, Jahvon Quinerly, Luther Muhammad and Atiba Taylor, Reid says the main goal is coming home with another Under Armour title.

PHILADELPHIA - Towards the end of a dominant showing from Sports U's 16-under team Saturday afternoon at the Elevate Hoops Summer Showdown, everyone was forced to hold their breath.

Naz Reid, a member of Sports U's 'Fab 5' and a 2018 five-star forward out of Roselle Catholic, went crashing to the floor with an apparent left leg injury in the second half of a win over Baltimore United. The No. 9 player in the Class of 2018 according to 247sports.com's composite rankings stayed down on the floor for several minutes before being helped to his feet and to the bench.

Reid was able to put some pressure on the leg as he walked back to a conference room inside Philadelphia University's Gallagher Athletic Center.

A few days after losing to Indiana in the NCAA Tournament, Kentucky coach John Calipari traveled to New Jersey to watch 2017 St. Patrick's big man Nick Richards and 2018 Roselle Catholic big man Naz Reid.

Calipari saw the 6-foot-11 Richards on Monday at St. Pat's and the 6-9 Reiz on Tuesday at Roselle Catholic. Kentucky has already offered Richards, but has yet to offer Reid.

Seton Hall associate head coach Shaheen Holloway also saw Reid on Tuesday, as first reported by Andrew Slater of 247Sports.com.

RAHWAY, N.J. -- Eight days ago, Nate Pierre-Louis and his Roselle Catholic teammates lost a brutal double-overtime matchup to St. Patrick's in the Union County championship game at Kean University.

But Pierre-Louis said the Lions came out of that game feeling positive about the future -- not full of dread at the heartbreaking defeat that dropped Roselle Catholic to 0-4 in Union County title games.

"We were proud," said Pierre Louis, a 6-foot-3 junior guard. "It wasn't like one of those losses that we were mad about because we really played our hearts out that game."

UNION, N.J. -- Many high-majors have already reached out to Roselle Catholic's Nate Pierre-Louis, with his list of suitors only growing larger as the Class of 2017, 6-foot-3 point guard continues to play like he did Wednesday night in the Union County Tournament semifinals.

Pierre-Louis, who said postgame that Kansas is the latest to express interest, scored 10 of his team-high 13 points after halftime in Roselle Catholic's 56-46 win over Linden, advancing the Lions to the Union County final against The Patrick School on Saturday night back at Kean University.

It will be the third meeting this season between the two Non-Public B powerhouses, who have already split a pair of games and could meet a fourth time in the South Non-Public B semifinals in March. The Patrick School is ranked No. 2 in New Jersey by NJ.com, while Roselle Catholic is No. 4.

ROSELLE, N.J. -- While Montverde (FL) Academy's Bruno Fernando remains one of the top uncommitted frontcourt players in the Class of 2016, the 6-foot-10, 225-pound forward hinted on Sunday that a decision will be made in the very near future.

"It's coming up," said Fernando, who one Division-1 coach recently compared to Serge Ibaka of the Oklahoma City Thunder due to his knack for rebounding and game-changing presence on the defensive end of the floor. "I'm really looking forward to making my commitment soon."

Where Fernando will land is a mystery, though the frontrunners appear to be SMU, Alabama, LSU, Marquette, N.C. State, and Florida State. He has a trip planned to Alabama in the coming weeks.

There are three heavy favorites to win the New Jersey Tournament of Champions title in March: St. Anthony's, St. Patrick's and Roselle Catholic.

Two of those "Big Three" will meet in the span of four days when St. Pat's (10-3) and Roselle Catholic (10-3) essentially play a home-and-home series on Wednesday night (7:30 p.m.) at Rahway High School (where St. Pat's plays its home games) and on Saturday night at Roselle Catholic (7 p.m.).

By Saturday night, fans of Garden State high school hoops may have a clearer picture of where the TOC favorites stand, although St. Anthony's already owns a 60-56 win over St. Pat's at the Dan Finn Classic and remains unbeaten on the season. The Friars are ranked No. 4 nationally by USA Today.

ROSELLE, N.J. -- It didn't take long for Naz Reid to flex his muscles on Saturday.

Just moments after the tip-off, the 6-foot-9 Reid threw home a cock-back dunk for the first basket of the game. Moments later, he was at it again with a steal and another slam dunk, setting the crowd into a frenzy.

It also didn't take long for Roselle Catholic to dominate, as they took an early nine-point lead and never looked back. The Lions went on to beat Raritan 75-48 behind Reid's 19 points at the Hoops for Troops showcase.

Several recruits were on hand to watch the Syracuse v. St. John's game at Madison Square Garden, among them 2018 New Jersey center Naz Reid. The Pirates on Sunday hosted the Sports U Team Izod Class of 2018 quintet of Jahvon Quinerly, Luther Muhammad, Atiba Taylor, Louis King and Naz Reid.

The players visited Seton Hall one day after sophomore guard Isaiah Whitehead went for 40 points in an 84-79 exhibition win over Baruch College.

NEW YORK - Of all the players in both the Underclassmen and Upperclassmen games at the Sharette Dixon Classic on Sunday night, Naz Reid may have the biggest upside of them all.

A 6-foot-9 sophomore at Roselle (N.J.) Catholic ranked the No. 5 power forward in the Class of 2018 by 247Sports.com, Reid has all the physical tools to make basketball his profession one day in the future.

"My idea of basketball is just to try to get way better and try to make it to the NBA," Reid said after he went for 20 points, including three 3-pointers, as the New Jersey underclassmen beat their New York counterparts, 96-89, at the Gauchos Gym. Markquis Nowell of Bishop Loughlin was the MVP with 20 points, including four 3-pointers.

JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Jahvon Quinerly wasn't born when the original Fab Five took the Michigan Wolverines to back-to-back NCAA championship games in the early 1990s.

But he's seen the ESPN "30 for 30" film and knows the storyline.

Seton Hall associate head coach Shaheen Holloway created some buzz this week by offering scholarships to a new Fab Five: the 6-foot Quinerly, 6-3 shooting guard Luther Muhammad, 6-6 small forward Louis King, 6-3 point guard Atiba Taylor and 6-9 power forward Naz Reid - all Class of 2018 prospects from the Sports U Team Izod AAU program.

JERSEY CITY, N.J. -- One afternoon early last week, Georgetown assistant coach Kevin Broadus pulled his rental car into the parking lot at the Community Education and Recreation Center in Jersey City -- the St. Anthony's High School practice facility known as the CERC.

Once inside the gym, Broadus was one of several Division 1 assistant coaches watching an open gym featuring the Friars, the program run during the season by legendary Naismith Hall of Fame coach Bob Hurley.

Georgetown already has one player committed from St. Anthony's in senior guard Jagan Mosely. And the Hoyas probably wouldn't mind adding a few more, either.
