John Calipari gets regularly courted by NBA teams -- he was most recently linked to the Brooklyn Nets -- and some in the basketball world think Calipari will inevitably return to the pro ranks in order to prove he can coach at that level.

After all, he's already in the Naismith Hall of Fame and has done just about everything that's possible at the college level, including winning an NCAA championship.

But Larry Brown says not so fast.

Emmanuel Mudiay passed through the NCAA Eligibility Center on the academic front, SMU coach Larry Brown and an NCAA source told SNY.tv on Monday.

"The NCAA Clearinghouse approved his credits from Prime Prep," Brown told SNY.tv exclusively after speaking with his compliance director earlier Monday. "I want people to know he could've gotten into SMU. He chose to go to China to help his family, not because of an amateur issue."

An NCAA source confirmed to SNY.tv that the 6-foot-5 point guard was cleared on the academic front by the NCAA. The source added that the amateurism review was not completed, so it's not clear whether or not that would have been a stumbling block.

STORRS, Conn. -- SMU is a bad matchup for the Huskies.

They are thick, strong and athletic and like to play a physical game. SMU plays in your face defense and leans on its opponents.

If there is one weakness of UConn, it's thickness and strength and the Huskies are ill-equipped to get in physical slow down game.
