NEW YORK -- Ron Naclerio doesn't want to get ahead of himself.

The Cardozo coach knows that both his team and Christ the King must win their first games on Friday in the SNY Invitational at City College before they can envision a rematch of their instant classic from a week ago.

But if Christ the King knocks off Brentwood at 6 p.m., and defending SNY Invitational champion Cardozo takes care of Mount Vernon at 8, the two teams will meet on Saturday for the second time since Jan. 23. Last Friday, Cardozo beat Christ the King, 67-65, when Monmouth-bound guard Ray Salnave fed Aaron Walker for an alley-oop layup at the buzzer.

NEW YORK -- If next Saturday's potential Christ the King-Cardozo SNY Invitational final is anything like Friday's game between the two Queens schools, fans are in for an all-time classic.

A buzzer beating alley-oop layup from Monmouth signee Ray Salnave to senior Aaron Walker gave the Judges a 67-65 victory over the Royals at Christ the King on Friday night, capping off a wild game that saw six lead changes in the final four minutes alone.

Christ the King (18-1), which lost its first game of the season on Tuesday to Queens HIgh School of Teaching, was ranked No. 19 in the nation this week by USA Today. They are also the reigning SNY Invitational champions.

NEW YORK -- St. John's and Maryland are the schools working hardest for Jordan Tucker, the talented Class of 2017 wing out of Archbishop Stepinac High School.

The 6-foot-7 Tucker has already visited St. John's numerous times, and was at their win over Syracuse at Madison Square Garden in December. He's also planning a trip to Maryland.

"I know I'm supposed to go to Maryland the 29th or 30th," Tucker told SNY.tv. after going for 25 points and 10 rebounds en route to MVP honors as Stepinac beat Gilman, 60-49, Saturday in the Big Apple Basketball Invitational at Baruch College.

NEW YORK -- Before taking on Bishop Loughlin for the SNY Invitational championship, Bob Hurley said his team needed to contain Seton Hall-bound guard Khadeen Carrington and Rutgers-bound guard Mike Williams, who had combined for 52 points in the semifinals.

Otherwise, the Hall of Fame coach said, "We're gonna be in a pile of hurt."

When all was said and done, Carrington and Williams did deliver a "pile of hurt" on two-time defending champion St. Anthony, combining for 37 points and 16 rebounds as the Brooklyn school demolished Hurley's club, 69-55, to win the SNY Invitational at CCNY in their first year in the event.

NEW YORK -- The SNY Invitational championship will pit two New Jersey-bound recruits against New Jersey's most storied high school basketball program.

Rutgers-bound guard Mike Williams and Seton Hall pledge?Khadeen Carrington?(pictured) combined for 52 points as Bishop Loughlin knocked off St. Mary's of Long Island, 82-69, setting up Saturday's 4 p.m. championship game against two-time defending SNY Invitational champion St. Anthony at the Nat Holman Gym at CCNY.

The Friars, who won the tournament in 2011 and '13, escaped with a narrow 67-61 win over Cardozo after four Friars reached double-figures in a game that probably aged Hall of Fame coach Bob Hurley a couple of years.

Here's my TV hit from Friday in which I went out on a limb, ahem, and picked St. Anthony to win the SNY Invitational.

Temple-bound Josh Brown and the Friars take their 80-game winning streak into today's 4 p.m. championship game against UConn-bound forward Kentan Facey and Long Island Lutheran.

NEW YORK -- When Josh Brown first arrived at St. Anthony High School three years ago, he had never played point guard.

"He didn't play the position until the end of sophomore year," Hall of Fame St. Anthony coach Bob Hurley told SNY.tv.

"We said to the AAU guys, 'Try to start playing him at that position. We think ultimately that's going to be where he's going to play in college.'"

After being notified Wednesday, two days prior to the start of the SNY Invitational, that Long Island University was no longer available to us, we worked through the night to come up with what we believed was a viable plan to move the event to St Raymond High School for Boys.? Unfortunately, as the details related to the large expected crowd and complex logistics became more clear, it was determined that St. Raymond?s facility could not adequately accommodate an event of this size on 24 hours notice.

While we regret the outcome ? we are committed to making sure the four schools and all of the deserving Tri-State Area students receive their promised funding and scholarships.? We are disappointed this year?s tournament will not take place and apologize for any inconvenience this causes the teams, their fans and our corporate partners.? We are committed to the SNY Invitational maintaining its position in the community and it is our intent to pick up where we left off in 2013.

Now comes 6-foot-8 junior Kyle Anderson, the Paterson Catholic transfer who is ranked No. 1 among point guards in the Class of 2012 by Rivals.com.

NEW YORK -- When Jermaine Sanders hit a difficult turnaround jump shot over a defender during overtime of the SNY Invitational title game on Saturday, he felt the spirit of cousin Ronald Washington Jr. surge through him.

"I think that fade-away shot, it must have been him because that was a tough shot that I made," Sanders said after scoring 12 points to help Rice beat Cardozo, 63-58, to win the SNY Invitational championship.

A 6-foot-5, 210-pound junior wing player with interest from numerous Big East and Atlantic Coast Conference teams, Sanders has played with a heavy heart since his cousin was shot seven times in the back in Far Rockaway, Queens Sept. 14. He died a week later at Jamaica Hospital.

He slept until 1 on Saturday afternoon and then came to play in the SNY Invitational championship game.

The 6-foot-9 Jack capped a comeback from 19 points down in the third quarter by draining two clutch foul shots in the final seconds of overtime and then blocking a shot on the defensive end to lead Rice to a thrilling 63-58 victory over Cardozo at Long Island University-Brooklyn.

"I think this is big for us as a school. It gives us a chance to play on TV, which is very big for us as basketball players," Southwell said. "It gives the whole city a chance to know who we are and prove that we're the best team in New York right now."
