St. Benedict's Prep
David Beatty, a 6-foot-4 Class of 2017 combo guard from Newark (N.J.) St. Benedict's Prep, visited UCLA this week, and will trip to UConn on Monday, he told SNY.tv.
Beatty triped to UCLA on Tuesday after playing at the Pangos All-American Camp. UCLA also hosted Gary Trent Jr., Charles Bassey, Nassir Little, Cody Reilly, Theo Johns, Kevin Samuels and Jacobi Gordon earlier this week.
"They got good history," Beatty said. "A lot of players went there and they put the most people in the NBA, so that might be something I look into."
Adam Zagoria and Josh Newman are playing the four, with a Final Four edition of The 4 Quarters Podcast.
First up, Villanova assistant coach Ashley Howard joins the show to talk about the Wildcats and their run to Houston, including the win over Kansas and the upcoming matchup with Buddy Hield and Oklahoma. Then, Adam and Josh run down all the other storylines left in the NCAA Tournament, along with the latest movements on the coaching carousel.
Later, St. Benedict's coach Mark Taylor calls in to chat about the Gray Bees, including prospects David Beatty and Bourama Sidibe, and the show wraps up with a full recruiting roundup.
Bob Hurley says he hasn't yet spoken with his son, Rhode Island coach Dan Hurley, about the Rutgers basketball opening, but believes that the school needs to hire a young, hungry coach who can get after it on the recruiting trail.
"Well, there's work to be done so the person that comes in I think needs to be a younger guy on the way up who is prepared to put the time in to just outwork people," the legendary St. Anthony's coach told me Friday morning by phone as he prepared for Saturday night's Non-Public B state championship game against Roselle Catholic.
Eight teams have been selected for the Dick's Sporting Goods High School Nationals beginning later this month.
The field was first announced earlier Wednedsay by SNY.tv.
The teams include Montverde (FL) Academy, Findlay Prep (NV), Oak Hill Academy (VA), St. Benedict's Prep (N.J.), La Lumiere (IN), Miller Grove (GA), Providence Day (N.C.) and Wasatch Academy (UT).
St. Benedict's Prep junior David Beatty is one of the top shooting guards in the Class of 2017. He will be contributing periodically to ZAGSBLOG going forward. Here is his first Player Blog.
What's up, guys? It's your boy DB himself. I'm here doing my first player blog with ZAGSBLOG today!
I made the jump from Philadelphia, Pa., to Newark, N.J., and I must say, Newark is not that much different than Philadelphia. This move was warranted to prepare me for college in a year both on and off the court. I love it here at St. Benedict's Prep! The faculty and coaching staff treat me great, it's like a second home.
There are 50 states in the union and only one of them has three boys basketball teams ranked in the Top 10 in the nation.
That would be New Jersey where St. Patrick's (5-1), St. Anthony's (5-0) and St. Benedict's Prep (13-0) are currently 7-8-9 in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 National Boys Basketball Rankings.
And that doesn't even include Roselle Catholic, the defending New Jersey Tournament of Champions winner which dropped out of the poll after listing at No. 13.

ROSELLE, N.J. - The St. Benedict's Prep duo of Bourama Sidibe and David Beatty are enough to give opponents trouble.
But when senior James Scott is on, there may not be many teams in the nation that can stop the Gray Bees.
St. Benedict's (12-0) defeated Our Savior Lutheran, 76-51, behind a combined 60 points from the trio at the Hoops for Troops basketball showcase at Roselle Catholic on Saturday.
Thon Maker says five schools are recruiting him the hardest.
But he may not make a decision until this spring or summer.
"I have five schools that are recruiting the hardest," the 7-footer wrote on his FoxSports.com blog. "They are: Arizona State, Kansas, Indiana, Notre Dame, and St. Johns.

JERSEY CITY, N.J. -- One afternoon early last week, Georgetown assistant coach Kevin Broadus pulled his rental car into the parking lot at the Community Education and Recreation Center in Jersey City -- the St. Anthony's High School practice facility known as the CERC.
Once inside the gym, Broadus was one of several Division 1 assistant coaches watching an open gym featuring the Friars, the program run during the season by legendary Naismith Hall of Fame coach Bob Hurley.
Georgetown already has one player committed from St. Anthony's in senior guard Jagan Mosely. And the Hoyas probably wouldn't mind adding a few more, either.
