The Jarrett Allen Sweepstakes is over.

The 6-foot-10, 225-pound big man from St. Stephen's Episcopal School, signed with Texas and will be a freshman in 2016-17. He also considered Houston and Kansas.

The addition of Allen gives the Longhorns a four-man freshman class. Allen will join incoming center James Banks and guards Andrew Jones and Jacob Young.

Charlie Moore, the 5-foot-10 point guard out of Chicago Morgan Park and former Memphis commit, has pledged to California coach Cuonzo Martin.

Moore decommited from Memphis following the coaching change. He also considered SMU, LSU and Georgia Tech, where former Memphis coach Josh Pastner now resides.


After Chris Beard bolted UNLV for Texas Tech, the school has now turned to New Mexico State head coach Marvin Menzies.

The school interviewed Menzies over the phone on Friday and a deal could be reached soon, according to the Las Vegas Review Journal. UNLV previously interviewed Menzies in person before initially hiring Beard.

After taking the UNLV job in late March, Beard on Friday agreed to become the next head coach at Texas Tech, replacing Tubby Smith, who took the Memphis job. ESPN's Jeff Goodman reported the deal is for five years. Beard was to earn $900,000 annually at UNLV.

Transferring Texas A&M big man Elijah Thomas has trimmed his list to five schools.

Thomas is down to Arizona State, Gonzaga, San Diego, Clemson and Nebraska, according to ESPN's Jeff Goodman.

He will visit Nebraska Dec. 29-31, sources told SNY.tv.

Elijah Thomas is transferring from Texas A&M.

"I'm just hoping to find somewhere that I can get an opportunity to show what I can do," Thomas told ESPN.com. "I have no bad feelings about anything. I appreciate everything Coach [Billy] Kennedy and the staff did for me, and I'm hoping they are successful. Now I'm going to lean on my family and Coach Wes [Grandstaff] and find a place to start the next chapter of my career."

The 6-foot-9 Thomas out of Lancaster (TX) also considered SMU, Oklahoma State, LSU and Illinois before joining a strong class at A&M that included his friend Admon GilderD.J. Hogg and Tyler Davis.

Texas head coach Rick Barnes announced Monday that?sophomore point guard Isaiah Taylor?has a broken left wrist and is out indefinitely. Surgery is not required and Taylor is expected to return this season.

Taylor broke the wrist Thursday night against Iowa in the 2K Classic at Madison Square Garden when he?crashed hard to the floor after driving to the basket and encountering 6-10 Gabriel Olaseni.

Houston transfer Danuel House has opted to transfer to Texas A&M and told SNY.tv he hopes to get a waiver to play immediately this season.

"It was a good visit," Austin told SNY.tv. "I?liked the campus, the team, the coaching staff and the strength and conditioning coach."

Julius Randle's mother says her son is still considering Kentucky even after the commitment of Marcus Lee and that he will commit in the spring as originally planned.

"We're happy for the young man and his family," Carolyn Kyles told SNY.tv Saturday in reference to the 6-foot-8 Lee, who pledged to Kentucky last week, becoming the fifth member of John Calipari's 2013 recruiting class.

"That was their commitment [based] on what was best for Marcus. Great players complement other great players on their team. Julius and his family will talk in the spring and decide the best place for him. Nothing has changed his thought about Kentucky. He's still considering Kentucky."

Cavaliers forward Tristan Thompson said he paid for?Texas?guard Myck Kabongo to come to Cleveland earlier this year ?to work out with a trainer -- and was reimbursed by Kabongo's brother.

Thompson and Kabongo have been friends since their childhood days in Toronto and played together at St. Benedict's Prep and Findlay Prep, as I covered in this story a few years back from Rivals.

"Did I pay for him? Well, yes and no," Thompson said, according to The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer. "You know, I actually had to pay for it and then had his brother reimburse me, which is totally fine with the NCAA. We discussed that. Again, we want to respect the process. I think everything's going to work out. I don't see no eligibility issues, but that's for the NCAA to work out."

"Hey, there's no question. NEWARK, N.J. -- If anyone knows what kind of player Texas is getting in incoming freshman point guard Myck Kabongo, it is Dan Hurley.

Hurley coached Kabongo at St. Benedict's Prep before taking over the Wagner College job. Hurley still vividly recalls when Kabongo went head-to-head with Kyrie Irving in January 2010 -- and came away victorious.

"To outplay Kyrie Irving and hit the shot to win the game at the buzzer, and then proclaim himself to be the best point guard in the country, it spoke to how hard he worked during the offseason to get better," Hurley told SNY.tv this week during an open gym at St. Benedict's.
