On Nov. 30, the New Jersey Devils and Anaheim Ducks made a substantial in-season trade that moved center Adam Henrique west and sent defenseman Sami Vatanen east.

Three weeks later, Henrique returns to the Prudential Center as the Ducks (14-11-8) play the Devils (18-9-5) on Monday night for the first time since the trade.

"I'm looking forward to it," Henrique said after practice Sunday in New Jersey. "Honestly, I'm going to try to not think about all that all day, but it'll be hard not to. I'm sure it will be emotional."

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Nick Leddy scored the winner in a marathon 14-round shootout, lifting the New York Islanders over the Anaheim Ducks 3-2 on Tuesday night.

Thomas Greiss made 39 saves and Adam Pelech and Josh Bailey scored in regulation for the Islanders, who had been 0-4-1 on the road this season.

Each team had four goals in the shootout through 13 rounds. After Kevin Bieksa missed on a slap shot to start Round 14, Leddy waited out Jonathan Bernier before snapping in the winner.

Anaheim nearly won in the 12th when officials reviewed a tying goal by New York's Thomas Hickey, but officials determined that Hickey did not interfere with Bernier on his attempt and awarded him the tally. Read more >>

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Two teams whose seasons are heading in opposite directions will meet Tuesday night when the Anaheim Ducks play the New York Islanders at the Honda Center.

The Ducks share first place in the Pacific Division with the Los Angeles Kings and the surprising Edmonton Oilers. The Islanders, meanwhile, own the worst record in the Eastern Conference following a frustrating November. New York has lost four consecutive games this month and seven of eight. Two losses took place during overtime, another two in shootouts.

Scoring has been such a big problem for the Islanders that first-line center John Tavares has seen a constant rotation of different wingers all season. So has left winger Andrew Ladd, who signed a seven-year contract worth $38.5 million as a free agent but has just two goals, one assist and a minus-4 rating after 17 games.

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- The Anaheim Ducks seek to maintain their share of first place in the Pacific Division when they meet another surging team, the New Jersey Devils, on Thursday night at the Honda Center.

The Ducks joined the Edmonton Oilers at the top of the division by beating them 4-1 on Tuesday night, with goaltender John Gibson making a season-high 33 saves. While the Devils and Ducks face each other, the Oilers play the slumping Los Angeles Kings, who've lost four in a row.

Goals have been hard to come by during the New York Islanders' worst stretch of the season.

The Anaheim Ducks can certainly relate.

The Islanders look to snap a frustrating three-game skid when they host the NHL's lowest-scoring team Monday night.

Another game, another loss.

Saturday's defeat at the hands the Anaheim Ducks played out like six of the past seven games the Islanders have played. The Isles had a decent effort against a good team and a against a hot?goaltender, but the result was a loss nonetheless. The Isles are 3-6-3 in the month of March and have not recorded a win at home since February 27.

Sunday's game against the Red Wings will be their final chance to grab a win at Nassau Coliseum?in March, and another chance to snap a skid that has dropped them to third in the Metropolitan Division.

Picking up wins at Nassau Coliseum has been tough this month for the Islanders and things didn't get easier on Saturday afternoon.

The Islanders fell 3-2 to the Anaheim Ducks in front of a sellout crowd in Uniondale. It was the seventh straight home contest that the Islanders have failed to win and it was their seventh loss in the last eight games.

"We're trying to figure it out," John Tavares said after the loss. "We're not playing as complete of a game as we did before... I think we're seeing how tight the games are at that time of year. I men we're not far off. We're losing a lot of games by one goal. You have to stick with it for 60-minutes. We're facing some adversity and we have to find a way to overcome it."

The streak is over. The Islanders snapped a three-game losing skid Wednesday night in Anaheim. John Tavares had his first two-goal game of the season, which included scoring the game winner in overtime. The win put the Islanders at 7-5-0 on the season.

For the game recap, click here.

Below are some quick thoughts and notes from the Islanders 3-2 overtime victory over the Ducks.

  • The Islanders started the game strong. They piggybacked off the performance they had in San Jose and played a good first period. The Islanders outshot the Ducks 12-4 through 20 minutes. Those four shots were a season low for the Ducks and something the Islanders should be proud of. Yes, Anaheim may have been missing Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf, but the Ducks are still no pushover.
  • John Tavares recorded his first multi-goal game of the season. This surely won't be the last one that he has, but Tavares has not been playing 100 percent like himself to start the year. It was good to see the Islander captain score two of the team's three goals, including the game winner.
  • Jaroslav Halak played a good game between the pipes. He made 32 saves in the win and posted a save percentage of .941. That is his second-best save percentage in eight appearances.
  • The win on Wednesday night should have come a bit easier for the Islanders. Anaheim is a good team, but they were quite banged up and the Islanders held a 2-0 advantage in the second period. After surrendering a power play goal at 9:15, the Islanders allowed the Ducks to gain the momentum and push the visiting Isles back on their heels. That eventually led to Emerson Etem scoring in the final five minutes of the period. It's unclear if it was a mental thing, or the Islanders just trying to play it too safe, but it has been a problem in the past and one that should be figured out.
  • The penalty kill went 1-for -2 on the night. Despite giving up a power play goal, the PK unit played well. They caught a tough break (literally) on the second kill due to Travis Hamonic breaking his stick in waning seconds of the penalty. If all four penalty killers had sticks, the goal may not have occurred.
  • The power play also played well. The Islanders went 2-for-3 on the man-advantage with the game winning goal coming on the power play.

The Anaheim Ducks were eliminated from the postseason, which means we can all start speculating about whether winger Bobby Ryan will be traded this summer. The Ducks have devoted a lot of cap space to Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry and there might not be enough left to keep Ryan, who is due to count $5.1 million against the cap for each of the next two seasons (per Cap Geek).

If a 30-goal scorer is on the trade market, you would think Lou Lamoriello and the Devils would be interested. Todd Cordell of Hockey Buzz posed the question, speculated about Anaheim's asking price and then answered it rather definitively.

Via Hockey Buzz:

His points per game average was down a bit from his standards this season but he still had more even strength goals and points than every player on the Devils, so clearly he'd be a welcome addition.

The Devils have sent Rod Pelley, Mark Fraser and a 7th Round Pick to the Anaheim Ducks for defenseman Kurtis Foster and goaltender Timo Pielmeier.

This is an upgrade for the Devils on defense and gives them a right handed shot from the point on the power play thanks to Foster. So far this season Foster has 1 goal and 1 assist in 9 games this season with the Ducks. Hopefully he can contribute more with the Devils. He is expected to join the team in Florida tomorrow.

Tom Gulitti met up with Scott Niedermayer in Los Angeles before the Devils took on the Kings Tuesday. He was drafted in 1991 3rd overall by the Devils. Niedermayer stayed with the Devils until 2005 to sign with the Anaheim Ducks to play with his brother Rob. Niedermayer was a huge part of the reason why the Ducks won the Stanley Cup in 2007. Niedermayer will have his number 27 retired by the Devils on December 16th against the Dallas Stars. It seems very likely that Niedermayer will be in the Hockey Hall of Fame. He says that if he does make the Hall of Fame he wants to go in as a New Jersey Devil where he spent most of his career. Definitely give this interview a read.
