'I'm pretty frustrated'

Carlos Rodon left Sunday's 9-7 loss to the Houston Astros with a tight left hamstring, but he is "confident" about being able to pitch and avoid a stint on the IL as the Yankees LHP approaches Monday's MRI.

"I feel confident that everything is OK," Rodon said. "Obviously, we won't know until that imaging comes. But I'm confident that I'm available, whatever they need me to do."

Before Rodon met with the media, Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters that he was "not sure" about the severity of Rodon's injury and a potential IL situation.

"We'll have an MRI (Monday) and then we'll have an idea," Boone said.

Rodon exited with two outs in the third inning, following a Kyle Tucker strikeout looking.

"He wasn't sure if he was cramping, but then it remained tight through even his warmup pitches," Boone said. "So got him out of there. So now we'll see what we've got (Monday)."

Before fanning Tucker, Rodon allowed a Yordan Alvarez solo home run that padded a 5-1 lead for the Astros (64-49).

"It was one of those things where they have a job to do, they have to keep their players safe," said Rodon, who is 1-4 with a 7.33 ERA and 1.52 WHIP in six starts for the Yankees (58-54). "And, obviously, I want to compete and stay on the field. I wanted to get some more outs, but it's just one of those things where I had to come off the field."

Whether or not he makes his next start remains to be seen, but Rodon is honest about where he stands following his latest drubbing.

"I'm pretty frustrated," Rodon said after surrendering five runs on three hits (two homers) while striking out five and walking two in 2 2/3 IP. "This is not the way I wanted to come out here and perform -- especially today, with a game that I feel like we needed to win. And I wanted to put that W on the board for the boys, and I gave up five runs again and it wasn't good. I'm pretty frustrated with how I'm performing right now. That's for sure."
