The Yankees, Los Angeles Angels, Cincinnati Reds, Texas Rangers and Miami Marlins were the trade deadline buyers who sent scouts to watch the Mets at Citi Field on Friday night, league sources said.
Some of this could have been normal coverage; the Kansas City Royals, not buyers, were there in that capacity.
It also does mean that other clubs won’t trade for Mets players -- but it does give an indication to who is considering trading for the many veterans available in New York’s selloff. It is unclear if Miami’s scout will leave town after the team traded for David Robertson.
Additionally, a Rangers scout has shown up specifically for two recent Justin Verlander starts, a source said.
Verlander is scheduled to start Sunday against Washington. Houston has also shown interest, according to league sources.
The Yankees have had the same scout on the Mets at least since the Subway Series this week, and into the weekend. They are looking for a left fielder who hits right-handed, and the Mets have two, Tommy Pham and Mark Canha. They are also looking for relievers, and the Mets have Brooks Raley.
