The Islanders announced the signing of forward Kyle Palmieri to a two-year contract on Friday afternoon.

The deal will carry a $4.75 million average annual value, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, who noted that he believes the deal was agreed to before New York hired Mathieu Darche to be the team's new general manager.

The Islanders also announced the signing of defenseman Adam Boqvist to a one-year deal, which Friedman reported to be worth $850,000.

Palmieri, 34, tallied 48 points (24 goals and 24 assists) over 82 games this past season, his fourth with the Isles, and was a minus-17 while averaging 18:31 of time on the ice, the highest average in his career. He was third on the squad in points behind Bo Horvat (57) and Anders Lee (54), and his five power-play goals were joint top with Lee.

The Smithtown, NY native began his 15-year NHL career with five seasons with the Ducks before he was dealt to the Devils for the 2015-16 season. He arrived back on the Island in an April 2021 deal, before signing a four-year contract with the Isles that offseason.

In 305 total games with the Isles, Palmieri has tallied 172 points (87 goals, 85 assists) and is a minus-23 while averaging 17:01 of ice time. In 68 career playoff games, he has 32 points (18 goals and 14 assists) and is a plus-11 while averaging 14:14 of ice time.

Boqvist, 24, tallied eight points (two goals and six assists) and was a minus-5 while averaging 15:22 time on the ice in 17 games with New York after being claimed off waivers from the Florida Panthers on January 31.

In six NHL seasons with the Isles, Panthers, Blue Jackets, and Blackhawks, the blueliner has totaled 99 points (27 goals and 72 assists) in 244 games and is a minus-50 while averaging 16:57 time on the ice in 244 career games. In eight playoff games during the 2019-20 campaign with Chicago, the No. 8 overall pick in the 2018 draft failed to register a point and was a minus-5 in 107:59 of total ice time.
