After he “felt good” a day after his first rehab start, Jacob deGrom is expected to have a five-day rehab schedule that would place his next start on Friday for the St. Lucie Mets, Mets manager Buck Showalter said prior to Monday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds.
DeGrom threw 24 pitches in 1.2 innings of work on Sunday and was hitting triple-digits on the radar gun consistently. He finished his outing by striking out five of the six batters he faced.
“It’s coming out good,” Showalter said. “It’s not because he’s trying at max effort (and) torque. He’s just got a rested arm.”
The St. Lucie Mets, the club’s Single-A affiliate, will play the Daytona Tortugas on Friday in Daytona Beach, Fla.
If all continues to go well, deGrom is scheduled to return to the Mets in late July.
