There was always talk about how the Nets' "big three" would mesh together, and who was going to take on what role.

A month after that blockbuster trade, they seem to know what they're doing offensively.

Kyrie Irving told reporters on Saturday night that he and James Harden had a conversation about their roles earlier this week, saying that Harden is the team's point guard.

"We established that maybe four days ago. I just looked at him and said 'You're the point guard, and I'm gonna play shooting guard.' And that was as simple as that," said Irving. "He's been taking control of the responsibilities and doing an incredible job, and it just makes my job easier to just go out and play free and just make plays."

Considering Harden had 16 assists on Saturday, and is now averaging 11.6 dimes a game since joining Brooklyn, it seems to be the right move; Harden has had double-digit assists in all but two of his 14 games as a Net.

The now-established Nets' point guard said the conversation happened during a practice while going over sets.

"I came to this team knowing that they have two special scorers on this team. Obviously, I score when I need to, but as long as I'm getting everybody involved, and Ky is getting the shots he wants, KD [Kevin Durant] is getting the shots that he wants, it's pretty efficient. It seems to work well that way," Harden said.

Head coach Steve Nash said Harden's playmaking will take Brooklyn to extreme lengths.

"His playmaking is what makes our team improve more-so than his scoring. Now, we want him to be aggressive and score and shoot the ball, but the special part of what he brings to our team is his playmaking. I think that... does allow it to all fit together," Nash said.

The Nets will continue their west-coast swing against the Sacramento Kings on Monday night.
