The Jets released running back Isaiah Crowell on Thursday, just days after they reached an agreement with free agent Le'Veon Bell, the team announced.

The Jets save $3 million in cap space by cutting Crowell, however Crowell's contract counts for $2 million in dead cap space for 2019.

The 26-year-old Crowell, who signed a three-year, $12 million with New York last offseason, totaled 685 rushing yards, 152 receiving yards and six rushing touchdowns in 13 games last year.

He scored two touchdowns in the season-opening win over the Lions and broke the franchise single-game rushing record when he ran for 219 yards in a Week 5 win over the Broncos. But Crowell totaled just 295 yards and one touchdown over the last eight games he appeared in, his season cut short due to a foot injury.

Of course, the Jets will replace Crowell with Bell, who agreed to a four-year, $52.5 million with $35 million guaranteed.

New York also has Elijah McGuire, a 2017 sixth-round pick who totaled 276 rushing yards on 92 carries, and Trenton Cannon, a 2018 sixth-rounder who totaled 113 rushing yards as a rookie last year, as depth.

Crowell has 3,803 rushing yards, 922 receiving yards and 28 total touchdowns in 77 career games including his four seasons with the Cleveland Browns.
