Knicks haven't shut down trade requests for Cam Reddish

It’s reasonable to assume that no Knicks player is off limits

A note on the Knicks as we get closer to Thursday's NBA trade deadline...

Given the Knicks’ record (24-31), it’s reasonable to assume that no player is off limits in trade talks. In discussions between the Knicks and at least one team, Cam Reddish’s name has been discussed.

It’s unclear if the Knicks offered Reddish in talks or if teams asked about him, but the Knicks hadn’t immediately shut down the conversation, per sources.

The Knicks traded a 2023 first-round pick and Kevin Knox to the Atlanta Hawks for Reddish in January.

Trade rules prevent New York from aggregating Reddish’s salary in a bigger deal. He would have to be moved in a trade that matched his own salary.

Earlier in the month, the Knicks had also been looking for ways to open up a rotation spot for Reddish via trade.

Reddish had played a total of 20 minutes in the first seven games in which he was medically cleared to participate. In the last two games, he’s played a total of 27 minutes as Quentin Grimes has been sidelined with an injury.

So why would the Knicks want to open up a roster spot for Reddish but also talk about potential trades of Reddish ahead of the deadline?

My best guess here is that New York is considering multiple trade options ahead of the deadline.

As you know, hundreds of deals are considered by teams around the NBA at this point in the calendar. Only a few will come to fruition. It makes sense for the struggling Knicks to keep their options open.

But Reddish being part of trade discussions is at least noteworthy because the Knicks traded for him a few weeks ago. It’s fair to assume the Knicks would only include Reddish in a deal if it returned a significant player on a contract that is near the equal of Reddish’s deal.

Also worth noting: The Detroit Pistons, as SNY reported, are among the teams with a degree of interest in Mitchell Robinson. Robinson can be an unrestricted free agent this offseason. On the point guard front, one team earlier this week was under the impression that the Dallas Mavericks wouldn’t part with Jalen Brunson in a trade unless the offer was significant, as ESPN’s Tim MacMahon previously noted. Brunson can be an unrestricted free agent this summer.
