The New York Liberty announced their full 2025 season roster on Thursday, ahead of their season opener.
As the Liberty look to repeat as WNBA champions, they'll have to overcome a major injury and implement some new faces. Before we get into that, here's the full list of players who made the 12-woman roster for the Liberty.
- Kennedy BurkeNatasha Cloud
- Marqusha Davis
- Leonie Fiebich
- Rebekah Gardner
- Isabelle Harrison
- Sabrina Ionescu
- Marine Johannes
- Jonquel Jones
- Nyara Sabally
- Jaylyn Sherrod
- Breanna Stewart
Noticeably absent from the roster is Betnijah Laney-Hamilton. The Liberty star will miss the entire 2025 season after the left knee surgery performed on her in March. Laney-Hamilton suffered the knee injury this past March during the inaugural season of Stewart and Napheesa Collier's Unrivaled league. The Liberty suspended Laney-Hamilton's contract on Wednesday, which allowed the Liberty to roster another player and not have Laney-Hamilton's contract count against the salary cap.
In a subsequent pair of transactions, New York waived forwards Esmery Martinez and Leaonna Odom to finalize the roster.
While usual starters Ionescu, Stewart and Jones are returning, the Liberty will see some new and returning faces grace the court for the team in 2025.
Cloud was the Liberty's big offseason acquisition, traded from the rival Connecticut Sun. The guard brings championship experience (winning the 2019 title with the Washington Mystics) and super ball-handling skills. She'll be the starting point guard, taking over for Courtney Vandersloot, who signed with the Chicago Sky in free agency.
Cloud, 33, averaged 11.5 points and 6.9 assists in 33.3 minutes over 38 games (all starts) for the Sun during the 2024 season.
Johannes was re-signed to the Liberty this offseason after spending last year competing with the French National Team in the Olympics last summer. In 2023, Johannes averaged 7.1 points and 1.7 assists in 18.9 minutes across 35 games for New York.
The Liberty begin their campaign for a repeat on Saturday, May 17, when they take on the Las Vegas Aces at Barclays Center.
