Prior to Saturday night’s game against the Miami Marlins, Mets manager Luis Rojas provided another update on Marcus Stroman’s status.

Stroman, who has been on the Injured List since July 22 with a partial tear of his left calf, threw a five-inning simulated game at the alternate site in Brooklyn on Friday, and Rojas said that all reports were positive.

“He did good in Brooklyn,” said Rojas. “It was five innings, 80-some pitches that he simulated with runners and everything that you can encounter in a game simulated in that game. It went well. As far as I know, the next step for him is to throw another sim game, as of now, and after that we’ll see.

“He’s responded better to treatments, from his progression of when the MRI showed the tear. He’s in a better spot. Everything is better, from what my understanding is.”

The Mets could certainly use the veteran right-hander back in their rotation, as Michael Wacha has been hit hard in each of his last two outings, while Rick Porcello has also been up and down. Steven Matz has also been hit hard early, with a 5.65 ERA in three starts.

When Stroman does return, the Mets could face an interesting dilemma with rookie David Peterson, who has been solid in his first two major league outings. Peterson will take the ball for the Mets on Saturday night against the Marlins.
