The Nets are "believed to be leaders" to sign Blake Griffin, reports Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Per Charania, rival teams that have interest in Griffin expect him to sign with the Nets for a chance to win a title.

Griffin, 31, was bought out by the Detroit Pistons on Friday.

While Griffin is no longer the above-the-rim menace he was earlier in his career, he still brings value.

He averaged 12.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.9 assists in 20 games this season with the Pistons while averaging a shade over 31 minutes per game.

Griffin was an All-Star for five straight seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers starting in 2010-11 and made his sixth All-Star team in 2018-19 with Detroit.

Since then, he has been slowed by knee issues, but should still be a solid complementary presence if the Nets are able to add him.
