Nets GM Sean Marks told YES Network that he and Kyrie Irving have not had conversations regarding the Brooklyn guard's player option.

Irving can opt out of his deal that is currently worth more than $36.5 million to become a free agent -- he is on track to hit the market after the 2022-23 season.

"We have not had a conversation yet, so I look forward to getting in a room with him and [owner] Joe [Tsai] and his team, and we’ll see what it looks like for Kyrie moving forward here and what he needs from us and so forth," Marks said in the interview. "... When they do, we’ll see if it’s the right fit for both sides."

Marks and Irving have been in the news lately, with the GM speaking out about the guard's commitment to the Nets.

"I think we know what we’re looking for," Marks told reporters last week. "We’re looking for guys that want to come in here and be part of something bigger than themselves, play selfless, play team basketball, and be available. And that goes not only for Kyrie, but for everybody here.

"I think it’s obvious. Whenever you have a key part of your team that’s not available and you’re trying to build chemistry, you’re trying to build camaraderie out on the court, that’s very difficult. And then you have people coming in at certain times of the season."

Irving, who was a road-only player for a chunk of the season after the Nets originally said he would not be with the team unless he was vaccinated, had said the Nets had "no plan ... no vision" for him to play in road games earlier.

"When we got into training camp in San Diego, I was not expecting a mandate to be brought down in a way that it wasn't going to allow me to play at all," Irving said. "I had the opportunity to play in away games still, but there was no plan in place, there was no vision of how it was going to work for our team, and I think that really impacted not just me, but a lot of people. So just had to sit in that hot seat for a little, and deal with it man.

"I was wondering at home what my future was gonna look like. Whether I was gonna be traded, whether I was gonna be released, whether I was gonna get the opportunity to be on another team, how I was going to spin this for myself in a positive way."
