The Nets have agreed to a multi-year contract extension with head coach Jacque Vaughn, the team announced Tuesday.

Vaughn, 48, took over on an interim basis on Nov. 1 when the Nets parted ways with Steve Nash. The team then dropped the “interim” tag on Nov. 9, signing Vaughn through the season with a team option for 2023-24.

The Nets did not announce the terms of Vaughn’s new deal, but ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports the new contract will keep Vaughn in Brooklyn through the 2026-27 season.

“Jacque has made an immediate and immeasurable impact on our entire organization since assuming the role of head coach earlier this season,” said Nets GM Sean Marks in a news release. “On the court, he’s clearly demonstrated his leadership through his ability to connect and communicate at a very high level while displaying tremendous instincts for the game. As a person, they don’t come any better than Jacque. His character is impeccable, and there is not a better representative for our team and our borough. We are thrilled to have Jacque lead the Nets for years to come.”

Since taking the reins, Vaughn has coached the Nets to 32-19 record, including a 12-1 month of December for which he earned Coach of the Month honors.

Taking over a 2-5 team, Vaughn currently has the Nets at 34-24, good for fifth place in the Eastern Conference, despite having to navigate through drama with the recent trades of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant.
