The Nets selected forward Jalen Wilson out of Kansas with the No. 51 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.
In 36 games this season (all starts), Wilson averaged 20 points per game on 43 percent shooting.
The 6-foot-8 red-shirt junior is one of the most decorated players in Kansas men's basketball history. Aside from being part of the 2021-22 National Championship team, he was the winner of the 2023 Julius Erving Award, given to the nation's best small forward of the year., and the Big 12 Player of the Year.
"He's a champion. He's won before," Marks said of Wilson after the draft. "He's seen what it takes, being coached, really hard, being coached well. So to bring him into a program like this we're all gonna be better."
In his Kansas career, Wilson was No. 27 in points (1,475), No. 14 in rebounds (802), No. 9 in double-doubles (28), No. 21 in three-point field goals made (140), No. 11 in three-point field goals attempted (443).
Some analysts didn't like Wilson's 33.7 percent shooting from three, but his 8.3 rebounds per game (a career-high) in the 2022-23 season is a bright spot and an area where he can excel in the NBA.
