Nets to sign Goran Dragic: report

The Nets have added to their guard depth, reportedly signing Goran Dragic, according to Shams Charania on Twitter.

The 35-year-old hasn’t played since Nov. 13 with the Toronto Raptors and has been inactive for much of the season, but in five games this season Dragic has averaged 8.0 points per game on 38.2 percent shooting while adding 1.8 assists per game.

Before the trade deadline, the Slovenia-native was sent to the San Antonio Spurs who then bought out his contract, leaving Dragic a free agent and available to sign with a contender.

After having spent the last six full seasons with the Miami Heat before joining the Raptors this last offseason, Dragic now joins fellow guards Ben Simmons — acquired earlier in a deadline deal for James Harden — Kyrie Irving, Patty Mills, Seth Curry and Cam Thomas.

To make room for Dragic on the roster, Brooklyn is waiving Jevon Carter.

Four seasons removed from his lone All-Star season in 2017-18, Dragic’s numbers have dropped but he is still a threat to score off the bench.

In 16 seasons playing for the Phoenix Suns, the Houston Rockets, the Heat and the Raptors, “The Dragon” has averaged 13.9 points and 4.8 assists per game on 46.2 percent shooting (36.4 percent from three-point range).

Dragic and the Nets hope to start the second half stronger than they finished the first half after having lost 11 straight games from late January to mid February and dropping to the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference standings at 31-28.

Brooklyn returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 24 when they host the Boston Celtics at 7:30 p.m.
