As of right now, there is no change to the NYC vaccination requirement in workplaces which prohibits unvaccinated Mets, Yankees, Knicks and Nets players from playing in home games.
“So, right now we’re gonna take some complaints,” Adams said. “But when this is all said and done, people are going to realize this is a thoughtful administration and we got it right. And so baseball, basketball, businesses, all of those things, they have to wait until that layer comes and right now we’re announcing just our two to four year olds.”
According to Mayor Adams, his administration will be peeling back restrictions “layer by layer” when the numbers and the science dictate when to do so, and he doesn’t feel any pressure from professional sports teams to make exceptions.
“We have to get it right and it’s imperative that we do so,” he said. “I can’t have my city and our city close down again… We can’t go by the noise, we have to go by the science.”
Adams continued: “Believe it or not, a lot of our businesses, they love the mandates. When I speak to a lot of my businesses, getting people back in the office, that mandate is allowing them to feel safe in the office, for those that feel that they would rather the vaccine mandate to be in place. But again, we’re gonna do it in layers and when we feel that it’s the right time to look at that, if we do so at all, because a work environment is an important environment, we’re gonna make that determination. We’re not there yet.”
