As the Knicks attempt to clear more salary cap space to pave the way for a run at free agent PG Jalen Brunson, there are several teams interested in trading for Alec Burks, reports SNY's Ian Begley.
Per Begley, the Boston Celtics are among the teams with a degree of interest in dealing for Burks.
If the Knicks -- after already clearing money by trading Kemba Walker -- trade either Burks or Nerlens Noel (without taking back any salary), they will be able to clear enough cap room to create roughly $25 million in space.
The 30-year-old Burks is entering the second year of a three-year deal worth a shade over $30 million, but his contract is only guaranteed through this season. The Knicks hold a club option on Burks for $10.48 million for the 2023-24 season.
Burks had foot surgery shortly after last season ended, and is expected to be ready for the start of the 2022-23 campaign, per Begley.
In 81 games last season, Burks averaged 11.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.0 assists while playing 28.6 minutes per game. He shot a tad over 40 percent from three-point range.
