The Knicks will keep guard Ryan Arcidiacono on the 15-man roster for the regular season, sources told SNY NBA Insider Ian Begley.
Arcidiacono has a non-guaranteed deal, but head coach Tom Thibodeau has praised his play and approach in practices/training camp and games.
“He’s been terrific. Whether it’s practice, when you throw him in a game. He’s smart, he’s tough, he’s competitive,” Thibodeau said Friday. “He can think on his feet, he can play multiple positions. A career 38 percent 3-point shooter. So he’s done a really good job. He’s stood out in practice. He’s played really well."
The 28-year-old went undrafted in the 2016 NBA Draft after leading Villanova to the 2016 NCAA Championship alongside current Knick Jalen Brunson.
Arcidiacono has averaged 4.6 points on 37.4 percent three-point shooting with 2.1 assists and 2.0 rebounds per game over 217 games (36 starts) in five seasons in the NBA. He played for the Chicago Bulls from 2017-2021 before joining the Knicks last season.
Begley reported Friday that entering training camp, Svi Mykhailiuk was seen as a favorite to earn a roster spot, per people in touch with the Knicks. Trevor Keels and Feron Hunt are on two-way deals, and the Knicks recently acquired Hunt’s G-League rights.
The Knicks can keep 15 players on traditional NBA deals on the roster and they can have a maximum of two players on two-way contracts.
The Knicks announced later Saturday that they’ve waived James Akinjo, Jalen Harris and DaQuan Jeffries, with Mykhailiuk remaining on 15-man roster.
