The Yankees may have the most potent offense in baseball, but even they are susceptible to some bad breaks.

In the first inning of Monday's game against the Twins, the Yankees fell victim to one of the rarer plays in baseball.

Edwin Encarnacion, who has a 1.019 OPS since the All-Star break, came to the plate with two runners on and nobody out when he ripped a groundball to Twins third baseman Luis Arraez. Arraez stepped on third, fired to second baseman Jonathan Schoop for the second out, and he relayed the ball to first baseman Miguel Sano before Encarnacion could get there to complete a 5-4-3 triple play.

While it was early in the game, it certainly appeared to set the tone. After the Twins escaped that threat in the top half, they responded with solo home runs from Jorge Polanco and Nelson Cruz to take an early 2-0 lead.

Encarnacion had a better showing his next at-bat, when he blooped a bases-loaded single to center field, which tied the game.
