Luke Voit appears to be getting closer to making his return in pinstripes.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone told YES Network’s Meredith Marakovits on Saturday that Voit will start a rehab assignment on Sunday.

Voit, who led the American League with 22 home runs in 2020, has played just 12 games this season while recovering from offseason meniscus surgery and then landing on the IL again on May 26 with a Grade 2 oblique strain.

The slugging first baseman hasn’t had much time to get into a groove at the plate this season, notching eight hits in 44 at-bats with a .182/.280/.250 slash line.
