After he was waived by the New York Giants over the weekend, tight end Will Tye is excited to be a member of the Jets after they signed him on Sunday.

"I'm happy to be anywhere, just being able to contribute, because I know I can help," Tye said, according to Newsday's Bob Glauber. "I know I belong in this league. That's a huge plus for me, to be somewhere fast. It feels good to be wanted, to be somewhere you know you can help and contribute. I'm ready to be on the field, ready to play, that's for sure."

Despite having 90 catches for 859 yards and four touchdowns in 29 games over the past two seasons, Tye was cut by the Giants in favor of Rhett Ellison, Evan Engram, Matt LaCosse and Jerell Adams.

The Jets' defense kept the Eagles from scoring on the final possession to secure a 16-10 win in the preseason finale on Thursday night at MetLife Stadium.

Josh McCown completed six of his eight passes, Spencer Paysinger led the Jets' defense with seven tackles, and Austin Sefarian-Jenkins had two catches and a touchdown in his final game before beginning a two-game suspension.

McCown, who threw for 57 yards, is "all good" after getting the wind knocked out of him, said head coach Todd Bowles. Bryce Petty did not play, but Christian Hackenberg completed just 10 of his 22 passes for 105 yards and a touchdown.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - The good news is the Jets really have no choice but to play most of their starters in their preseason opener. Or maybe that's the bad news given the low expectations for this team.

But Jets GM Mike Maccagnan and coach Todd Bowles have promised competition all summer long for almost every job on the roster, and the competition begins for real against the Tennessee Titans at the Meadowlands on Saturday night. Not all jobs are up for grabs, of course, but quite a few are.

Here's an inside look at some of the battles and 10 intriguing players to watch:

Some of the Jets' newest additions, TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins and S Marcus Maye, had high praise for their new head coach, Todd Bowles.

Both appeared on SNY's The Jet Stream podcast, and when asked who is most impactful to the Jets this season, Seferian-Jenkins showed love to his coach.

"I would definitely say, first of all, coach Bowles," Seferian-Jenkins told SNY's Jonas Schwartz and Willie Colon. "I never had a coach like that, that really just says a real, honest thing. Just tells you the truth. He doesn't want to lie to you, he doesn't want to sugarcoat anything. I think he's a phenomenal coach."

For the first time in three years, Muhammad Wilkerson showed up for the start of the New York Jets' offseason training program.

The big defensive lineman was pictured at the Jets facility in Florham Park, New Jersey, on Monday morning, as the team officially kicked off its voluntary workouts. Last year, Wilkerson declined to participate because he wasn't happy with being tagged as the Jets "franchise player." He skipped them in 2015 as he hoped to pressure the Jets to give him a new deal.

The Jets were a mess last season and at times they seemed out of control -- as dysfunctional as they were bad. Through it all, though, Todd Bowles did his best to remain a steady voice and presence, publicly unmoved by the chaos that seemed to be swirling around him.

The Jets were crushed by the Colts, 41-10, on Monday night at MetLife Stadium as they fell to 3-9 on the season. Bryce Petty replaced Ryan Fitzpatrick during the game and will be the starter for the remainder of the season. Here's insight and analysis regarding the Jets' awful Monday night performance...

Quarterbacks

Ryan Fitzpatrick's performance speaks for itself. He only completed one pass beyond the first down marker, had a completion percentage below 50 percent, and punctuated his performance with an interception on the kind of forced throw he's been unable to get away with all season.
