NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. -- Mohamed Bamba and Quade Green wore long looks of dejection on their faces as they trudged to their airplane on Sunday evening for their flight home from the Peach Jam.

The PSA Cardinals duo had just taken a 93-65 beating at the hands of Michael Porter Jr. and MoKan Elite in the Peach Jam championship game televised on ESPNU. It was the last time Bamba and Green will play for the New York-based AAU team.

But there wasn't much time to mope, either.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Co. -- Nojel Eastern was one of the final cuts from the USA U17 team on Tuesday. Despite the less than ideal outcome, Eastern performed well enough to put himself in contention which was a long way from last year when he was forced to watch the U16 tryouts with a boot on his foot.

"Of course watching last year helped," said Eastern, out of Evanston (IL) Township. "Seeing what the coaches wanted out of players and seeing what it takes to make the USA team. I'm just coming out and seeing what I saw last year. Seeing what the people that made did and also what the people that didn't, what they didn't do. So I just wanted to use that to my advantage."

In the spring of 2015, Eastern suffered a dislocated ankle at the Lexington EYBL stop. The injury kept him from playing throughout the summer and into the fall. Now fully healthy, Eastern has been eager to compete against some of the top players in the 2017 and 2018 classes.

The finalists for the U18 team are set to be announced Thursday.

STORRS, Conn. - Through its unparalleled run of success that's lasted for more than a quarter-century now, the University of Connecticut women's basketball team has stayed away from catchy cliches or slogans, instead letting its actions do the talking.

With an opportunity at a history-making season, the Huskies won't change and will go with what got them here.

"There's a lot of times you hear, 'Don't play to lose,' or 'Refuse to lose,' " UConn guard Kia Nurse said. "For us it's a matter of us continuing to take nothing for granted. Just because you put on this UConn jersey doesn't mean you're going to win the game. What's special, I think, is that every player understands that we have to go out there and perform at our best each and every day to make sure that we don't lose."
