The champions came calling, but it was no use.

Despite a strong push from the Miami Heat, free-agent guard Toure' Murray has accepted an invitation to participate in New York Knicks training, according to media reports.

The Knicks were impressed with Murray's strong summer league performance in which he proved to be a strong defender. According to reports, coach Mike Woodson said Murray and big man Jeremy Tyler were his two favorite players from the summer league squad.

Back when I was in high school, C- was still a passing grade. But when you're being judged on an offseason worth of free-agent signings, trades and the NBA Draft, it's not as flattering.

Sports Illustrated handed the New York Knicks a C- grade for the offseason, one in which the team acquired Andrea Bargnani, Metta World Peace, Beno Udrih, Jeremy Tyler, Tim Hardaway Jr. and C.J. Leslie, and also re-upped with J.R. Smith, Pablo Prigioni and Kenyon Martin.

According to Rob Mahoney, the Knicks retained some necessary pieces and enjoyed some bargain signings, but re-signing Smith comes with its question marks, while trading for Bargnani did not address the team's needs.

The top five in the East, according to ESPN, goes as follows: the Miami Heat, Chicago Bulls, Indiana Pacers, Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks.

It's the same teams that finished in top five a season ago, except teams 2-5 are scrambled up. In 2012, the Knicks finished second in the Eastern Conference, followed by the Pacers, Nets and Chicago.

J.R. Smith has been a focal point of the New York Knicks offseason, and for obvious reasons.

The Knicks re-signed the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year to the tune of a two-year deal worth nearly $18 million, including a player option for a third year.

Smith posted career-highs in both points (18.1) and rebounds (4.5) in 2012, and told KnicksNow.com there was never a question about whether or not he wanted to remain with his hometown team.

The New York Knicks have interest in reuniting with guard Chris Duhon, according to Yahoo! Sports.

Duhon now joins fellow guards Bobby Brown and Beno Udrih as reported targets of the Knicks, a team in search for depth at the point guard position.

In 46 games with the Los Angeles Lakers last season, Duhon averaged 2.9 points and assists, albeit in about 18 minutes per game. He did manage to shoot 38 percent from the floor.

After showing interest in guard Delonte West earlier in the weeks, the New York Knicks will reportedly turn their attention to signing Bobby Brown who, as of yesterday, has signed with a Chinese basketball team.

According to the New York Post, Euroleague point guard Bobby Brown is second on the Knicks' wish list behind veteran Beno Udrih. The team hopes to get Udrih for the $1.4 million veteran's minimum, which is quite a discounted rate compared to the $7 million he made with the Orlango Magic and Milwaukee Bucks last season.

It's not a very likely scenario, however, as Udrih -- who averaged 8.2 points and 4.6 assists in 2012-13 -- will likely command a higher salary.
