  • On coming back"It?s awesome. It was only one year but that one year was special to me. Going so far in the playoffs, it was the best year I have had in the NHL. Seeing those guys out there tonight will be fun,"
  • On it being different because of how far the team went, "For sure it will be different. Going so far and seeing them everyday, we bonded even more. I still stay in touch with a bunch of them. Coming back to NY and the year we had, there is only positive and good stuff and it helped me a lot in my career. It will be special and fun."
  • On Edmonton, ?They are such a young team and at one point it will turn around, they pushed hard and I couldn?t say no. It?s been 8-9 years that they haven?t been in, but that can all change. So far so good everything is positive, we are not winning as much as we want but it?s similar to the start we had last year.

Benoit Pouliot spoke today in Edmonton about his decision to leave the Rangers and join the Oilers. (Oilers)

Pouliot said, "It's tough. I really enjoyed NY and had a great time. The team treated us well and everything but when it comes to free agency and not knowing what will happen, some teams have money and some don't. Coming here is good and a challenge and fun, they are so young and fast and it's gonna be a great fit."

On speaking with Glen Sather after signing with the Oilers, "Glen actually called me and left me a message saying good luck and that I would enjoy it and it's a great place to be and coming from Glen is big. He is a great man and the way he treated me this year was awesome."

Benoit Pouliot was a guest on TSN 1260 yesterday after signing a FIVE-YEAR deal with the Oilers (1260)

  • Why did you sign in Edmonton, "as soon as they were allowed to talk to me and my agent they were excited and interested in me and the fact that it's such a young and fast team and they have had their struggles but the way it's going and how young and how they play the game got me interested. That was the main reason."
  • How important was a long-term deal, "very important and the main thing coming into this negotiation, I really wanted a long-term deal which I have never had. Knowing where you will be the year after helps a lot mentally and it lets you just think about the game and not worry about anything else. The past 4-5 years have been tough not having a long-term or knowing what will happen and now I do and I know I will be in Edmonton, I am happy and looking forward to it."
  • On wanting to keep the puck in the offensive zone, "New York last year was that, we wanted to stay in their zone and we did a great job of that and look where we ended up, in the Stanley Cup Final and playing with possession, the less time we spend in our zone the more games we will win and that is what we thrived on. The whole league is going that way and it's everywhere and it's what everyone wants. I thrive on that and will be the first one in on the forecheck and going to the dirty areas in front and doing my job and I did a good job in New York and the whole team was great and now I got an opportunity to play with young guys and skilled guys so it's more of the same."
  • On going to the West, "it's going to be different and out west and every team is different but we we just need to play the game and we have a good set up and plan and everyone is following the game plan and things will fall into place. NY was the same thing and we did a good job of that and you get used to it pretty quick."
  • On where he is most comfortable, "position wise, left winger if possible. LW is what I have been playing since I joined the league. RW, LW is pretty equal but mostly left."
  • On what his role with the Oilers might be and playing against the big lines, "I like that a lot and last year was the same way. We were the third line and played against the big guys, against Pitt we were against Penguins and I strive to be good defensively and like being able to get the puck out or having a good stick, it causes opportunities to go on the forecheck and it's not something that I had when I first joined the league, I wasn't really good and then I got better as a two-way player and now I know how it works, if you play great defensively things will happen at the other side too and I feel comfortable doing that."
  • What did you learn this past season, "I learned a lot. The whole experience was awesome. I never went that far in playoffs and just getting there was unbelievable but it took a lot of hard work. The beginning of the season was tough, we were one of the worst teams and we didn't know what would happen, we were down on ourselves and then things turned quick. We did the job in the playoffs and it was a great experience but it was really hard, people don't realize how hard it is to get there and then after that, once you put the fun and work in everything is perfect.
