STORRS, Conn. --- UConn head coach Bob Diaco has thought long and hard about Army's offense and the triple-option attack.

He's had to defend all the versions, Army, Navy's and the Air Force. He has watched what that offense does to players before and after games. He has even thought about how it would be implemented if he wanted to do it.

UConn head coach Bob Diaco needs offensive linemen Ryan Crozier and Trey Rutherford to develop quickly on the line.

The duo are also true freshmen just a couple of weeks on campus.

Offensive linemen typically redshirt their first year, but Diaco is going to play both Crozier and Rutherford on Friday against BYU. It's the only way for them to get better as far as Diaco is concerned.

UConn head coach Bob Diaco has had a couple of weeks to digest spring practice, his team and where things are going.

Diaco has made no false promises about what's in store for the Huskies in 2014. The conditioning aspect of the Huskies has been something he has openly critiqued since he took over the program and from a strength and conditioning standpoint remains a focal point. The players are off for three weeks, but when the players return to campus for the summer program on June 2 he wants them to stay in shape and hit the ground running.

"The team needs a lot of work, the culture needs a lot of work and the physical portion, physical conditioning, speed and strength needs a ton of work. We are way behind to start thinking about winning games....

STORRS, Conn. -- UConn was up early this morning for a 6 a.m. spring practice, but the competition on the field remains vibrant.

Head coach Bob Diaco was nice enough to allow Des Conner, Jim Fuller and I out onto the field for one of the more fun drills I've seen. For a 6 a.m. practice, energy was good, and the competition even better.

UConn released its spring roster in preparation for Monday's spring practice beginning under first-year head coach Bob Diaco.

Ty-Meer Brown, a three-year starting safety who injured his neck last season, will no longer be able to play football. He remains with the program and is on scholarship and his schooling won't count against the 85 scholarship limit. Another player, senior QB Scott McCummings, is also not with the team this spring. McCummings injured his Achilles Tendon last summer and was out for the year. He is on track to graduate this spring.

As for the rest of the roster, there was some player movement with Ruben Frank and Cole Ormsby moving from DE to LB for the 3-4 scheme. Frank and Ormsby are undersized 4-3 DEs, and pass rushing LBs in 3-4 settings. UConn and ?head coach Bob Diaco will run the 3-4 defensive scheme, though most college defenses change fronts and schemes as the gameplan dictates. UConn did play some 3-4 under former defensive coordinator Don Brown, who is now at Boston College.

Bob Diaco had six weeks to put this together.

First the newly minted UConn head coach head to keep the commitments that were already made, and then he decided to go out and get big people.

That's essentially what the Huskies ?small 14 person recruiting class looks like (not including LB Chris Britton and DM Jamar Summers, who are enrolled).
