The Giants have already brought new competition for their 53-man roster this offseason as they signed K Marshall Koehn and P Austin Rehkow to future/reserve contracts.
Future/reserve contracts guarantee both Koehn and Rehkow will be on the 90-man roster when the new league year begins (March 14), after which they will have to battle to stay on the roster. One notable player who made the Giants' roster this season on a future contract was K Aldrick Rosas, who beat out veteran Mike Nugent for the kicking job.
However, Rosas struggled in his first full season in the NFL, making just 72 percent of field goal attempts. His performance forced the Giants to sign Koehn to add competition right away.
