FLORHAM PARK, N.J. ? Now a Jet, former Rams first round pick Jason Smith won?t admit to any special emotions or feeling this Sunday in St. Louis. Instead, he?s having too much fun in green and white to admit to that.

Smith endured an up and down tenure with the Rams, where four years ago he was a first round pick. Expectations were high, some of which he met and some of which were unfulfilled and led him to becoming a bit of a whipping boy among the Rams fan base. He was traded to the Jets this season in exchange for the much maligned Wayne Hunter and with his new team he?s primarily been used as a jumbo tight end.

There?s no extra feelings for Smith this week leading up to a return to the team that drafted and then three years later traded him. ??I play for the Jets and that?s my life now,? Smith told The Jets Blog.

Jordany Valdespin and Raul Reyes each launched solo homeruns, and Chris Schwinden struck out six over six innings of work.

It was Valdespin?s second homerun as a member of the Bisons.? Here is a video of Valdespin?s leadoff homerun.

Friday, Press and Sun Bullentin beat writer Lynn Worthy tweeted that the Mets had told RHP Collin McHugh, RHP Brandon Moore, OF Juan Lagares and 2B Reese Havens that they'll be playing in the Arizona Fall League. ?The Arizona Fall League, a finishing school for top prospects features six teams and begins play on Tuesday, October 4, and runs through a championship game on Saturday, November 19.

All four players will have to exposed to the Rule Five draft if they are not added to the team's 40-man roster before November 20.

There should be a few more players likely from St. Lucie also heading to the desert before Major League Baseball finalizes the AFL rosters, but lets take a look at the four Mets farmhands we know will be playing in October.

What to like:2B Reese Havens was 2-5 with a double. After hitting .389/.477/.639 in his last ten games the 24-year old is up to .296/.376/.438 in 44 games in AA this year.

I meant to link to it last week, but Baseball America had Havens?on their Weekly Hot Sheet at #12 last week. The comment included this line:

SS Jordany Valdespin was 3-5 with a double to inch back within a hair's breadth of .300 at .299/.343/.471 in 89 games. ?Since June 1, the ?23-year old is hitting .339/.375/.546 with nine doubles and nine homers in 174 AB over 45 games. ?Go gaga over the average and power. ?However, recognize that it comes with two areas where Valdespin must improve: a 3.7% walk rate and a 66% (18 SB/27 AT) stolen base percentage since June 1. ?In particular, Valdespin is 5-for-11 in July. ?Before July, he was running wild at an 80% ?(24 SB/30 AT) clip. ?Did he become less selective, or is this small sample size silliness?

Meanwhile, Josh Satin (.322/.421/.538), playing 2B again, was 2-4 with a walk. ?He extended his consecutive games on base streak to 43 straight. ?Yeah, 43 straight. ?The next best streaks in the Eastern League this year? 27.

Mark Cohoon?(L, 2-5) turned in his third straight solid outing for the Bisons. In six innings of work Cohoon allowed seven hits, three runs, walked none, and struck out a season high seven. He induced seven groundball outs and two fly outs.

Cohoon's last three starts: 17 IP, 15 hits, 7 er, 5 bb, 13 k. Hey its not spectacular, but its progress.

There was a flurry of Mets minor news over the last couple of days.? With official rosters trickling in, we can now form rotations and lineups based on who is going where.? Here are some of the most newsworthy notes:

  • Josh Stinson (pictured), who many thought would be headed to AAA, will get the ball on opening day for the Binghamton Mets.
  • Rounding out the rest of the B-Mets rotation behind Stinson will be Mark Cohoon, Brad Holt, Robert Carson, and Brandon Moore.
  • B-Mets manager Wally Backman says Eric Campbell will hit third and Josh Satin will play second base and bat fourth.
  • Jeurys Familia apparently will be headed back to St. Lucie (A+), instead of moving up to Binghamton.
  • With news that Satin will be the B-Mets starting second baseman, it reveals that Reese Havens, who would be slated to Binghamton, is not healthy enough to start the season.

Brandon Moore: L, 5 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 1 K

Moore now has walked 13 batters in 30 IP in St. Lucie (3.9 BB/9) while fanning 25 (7.5 K/9).? Against more free-swinging SAL lineups, Moore walked 11 and fanned 98 in 79.2 IP for rates of 1.24 BB/9 and 11.1 K/9.? Moore has dominated lower level hitters by getting them to chase his breaking balls, but it looks like the FSL hitters are laying off his soft stuff.
