LHP Sean Gilmartin was sent to Triple-A Las Vegas to make room on the 25-man roster for Flores.

Flores, who has been on the disabled list since April 21 due to a knee infection, went 2-for-4 for Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday night as he concluded his rehab assignment.

Brandon Nimmo led off and played nine innings in a rehab game for Single-A St. Lucie on Thursday night.

Nimmo went 0-for-2 with two walks and a strikeout as he completed his second rehab game in as many days.

He went 1-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and three runs Wednesday in his first rehab game since straining hamstring during the World Baseball Classic in March.

Nimmo, 24, hit .274 with one home run and six RBIs in 32 games for the Mets last season.

Conforto to start 2017 in majors 00:06:03
Loud Mouths weighs the benefits and detriments of Michael Conforto starting the season with the Major League club.

Michael Conforto had been preparing to begin this season at Triple-A Las Vegas, he told reporters earlier this week.

However, because Juan Lagares is likely headed to the disabled list with a strained left oblique muscle, Conforto is now at Citi Field and expected to be on the Opening Day roster.

"I am excited to be with the team and any role I'll play, I just want to win ballgames and see how far we can take this thing this year," Conforto added, according to Mike Puma of the NY Post.

Lagares vs. Conforto in outfield 00:04:20
The Mets Talk Live panel discusses Juan Larages' oblique strain and whether or not Michael Conforto will be playing for him.

At this point, Michael Conforto will almost certainly replace Juan Lagares. To be honest, I think the roster spot may have first gone to Brandon Nimmo, because the Mets really want Conforto playing every day - even if it meant doing so in Triple-A Las Vegas.

Unfortunately Nimmo is nursing a hamstring injury and is also doubtful for the start of the season, so Conforto is the only option left to be the team's fourth outfielder - even if it again means inconsistent at bats and covering center field, where he's only played six times during his career.

Mets Talk Live talks deep bench 00:04:23
The Mets Talk Live crew examines the team's depth and the competition for a number of roles this spring.

Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo is still not running, according to Matt Ehalt of The Record.

Nimmo's recovery was set back a few more days after bothering his hamstring again Friday during running drills, he told reporters on Saturday.

The young outfielder was running at 90 percent last Thursday, and there was a belief that he could potentially play the field on Saturday before he re-aggravated the injury, reported Kristie Ackert of the NY Daily News.

Nimmo originally injured the hamstring two weekends ago playing for Italy in the World Baseball Classic. The team's manager, Marco Mazzieri, initially told the NY Times that it was believed to be a Grade 1 strain, which would likely force Nimmo to be sidelined for at least a few weeks.

In an article for ESPN.com, former GM and current MLB insider Jim Bowden brainstorms a potential trade between the Mets and Cardinals swapping OF Brandon Nimmo for 1B Matt Adams.

In Bowden's view, Adams, who lost his starting job with the Cardinals, would be the perfect complement to Wilmer Flores at first base, freeing the Mets to either trade (or absorb another injury from) Lucas Duda.

Mets manager Terry Collins has no plans to bench Jay Bruce, he told reporters after Wednesday's loss to the Nationals.

Bruce says he doesn't need rest to get on track, despite batting just .192 with a .271 OBP, four home runs, four doubles and 11 RBI since the Mets acquired him from the Reds on Aug. 1.

"I just told him that I didn't need any more time off," Bruce said after the game. "I told [Collins] I completely understand that he has to put a lineup on the field that gives us the best chance to win, but I also feel like I'm one of the best nine options."
