[UPDATE 12:25] Because Urbom cleared waivers, he can go back down to Albany and apparently, that's where he will start, as per TG via Lou Lamoriello.
Devils were only team to put in claim for Urbom, so they can send him directly to Albany, which they will, Lamoriello said.

Helgeson gives the Devils a bit more flexibility on defense, should they need to sit someone tonight or Friday against the Hurricanes.
With Adam Larsson out due to a lower body injury, that left the Devils with only six defensemen after Jon Merrill was called up from Albany as well. Larsson's ailment is on top of injuries to Bryce Salvador and more recently, Anton Volchenkov.

As it was widely expected, Cory Schneider has been activated off the injured list and will start against the Minnesota Wild.
Schneider has played well against the Wild in his career and with Brodeur starting the last three games, it'll be no. 35 who gets the call.

Devils Defenseman Alexander Urbom has been picked up by the Washington Capitals after the Devils placed the young defenseman on waivers yesterday.
This is a puzzling move for New Jersey, as there were certainly a few other options to be sent down with a far lesser risk of being picked up. Not to diminish the play of Stephen Gionta, but sending him down, even if it was just for a few games, might have been a smarter move than to expose Urbom to waivers.

The terms of the deal were not announced, in accordance with club policy.
The Devils brought in Brunner on a professional tryout contract last week, looking to add forward depth to their lineup. The 27-year-old Swiss native had 26 points (12 goals, 14 assists) for the Detroit Red Wings last year.

In a move that was long rumored over the summer, Damien Brunner will be attending training camp, looking to make the club.
This is a no-brainer if you ask me. Give him a tryout, see how he does, and if it doesn't pan out, there's no harm done.

The suspension means Volchenkov will half of the Devils' remaining eight regular-season games.
It's one game more than I thought he could get, but I'm not surprised the NHL went up to four after watching the video. Shanhan harped on a few things. One, Volchenkov extended his elbow to the point where it became "reckless elbow contact to the head" of Marchand. Two, Marchand tried to avoid the hit and turned his head, but it doesn't change the fact that Volchenkov didn't pursue the puck and turned what could've been a legal body check into an illegal elbow. Three, Volchenkov was in control of the play and in control of his body and clearly pursued the elbow to the head instead of playing the body. Shanahan also referenced Volchenkov's prior suspension and Marchand's injury (likely concussion) as factors, so at least the NHL admits a player's injury status affects how they rule. When you watch the video, it's hard to disagree with the four-game ban, which is often the case with Shanny's home movies.

Less than 24 hours later, according to Mikael Lalancette of Quebec's TVA Sports, Matteau was shipped back to juniors on Sunday.
Matteau netted just one goal and had two assists in 17 games with New Jersey. The 19-year old was a healthy scratch for three straight games before Saturday and had not recorded a point since New Jersey's loss in Buffalo on March 2.

You must crawl before you can walk, right? The Devils have been coy on Brodeur's status he was scratched before his Feb. 24 start against Winnipeg. But Brodeur can't play unless he can skate and getting him on the ice is of paramount importance.

Butler, who registered only two points in 16 games, was placed on waivers Sunday.
Butler had seen his ice time cut drastically the last two games. The forward, who signed with New Jersey last offseason after a three-year stint in Ottawa, was a minus-1 in only 5:19 of the Devils' 4-3 loss Saturday in Buffalo.

This means Brodeur will miss at least two games (Thursday and Saturday), three if you include Sunday's late scratch. Should we worry that all the miles have finally caught up to Marty or are the Devils just being cautious with their 40-year-old netminder? Maybe a little of both. Outside of Ilya Kovalchuk, Brodeur is the most indispensable player on the roster and you could argue he's more important than Kovy. Expect Johan Hedberg to start one if not both of the games Brodeur has missed with Keith Kincaid Kinkaid being added to the active roster as a backup. We'll have more on this later, but I wanted to get the news up for now.

Instead, the 40-year old netminder left the ice early during warmups and was scratched from his scheduled start against the Jets.
Johan Hedberg will start for the second straight day. Brodeur is sitting on the bench as the backup.

The Devils have sent Rod Pelley, Mark Fraser and a 7th Round Pick to the Anaheim Ducks for defenseman Kurtis Foster and goaltender Timo Pielmeier.
This is an upgrade for the Devils on defense and gives them a right handed shot from the point on the power play thanks to Foster. So far this season Foster has 1 goal and 1 assist in 9 games this season with the Ducks. Hopefully he can contribute more with the Devils. He is expected to join the team in Florida tomorrow.

As per Bob McKenzie, The New Jersey Devils claim center Ryan Carter. Carter was placed on waivers earlier this week by the Florida Panthers. This move was definitely made to fill the spot left vacant due Jacob Josefson's injury. He will join the team in Phoenix and may play Thursday against the Coyotes.
Some stats on Carter:
