John Tavares was a guest today on?the Mike Richards in the morning program with TSN1050 in Canada.?Here are nine things we learned from Tavares:

1. On the move to Brooklyn - "It's going to be different, but we're all excited."

2. Talking about the atmosphere at the Coliseum in it's final season - "The Coliseum was really something special this season. Especially with the year we had and the way our fan base rallied behind us. It was a special place. It's up to us to carry that tradition over."

It's no secret that the Islanders and Nets will soon become corporate cousins when the Isles move to the Barclays Center next season.

It will be a reunion of sorts since the Islanders and Nets used to both play at Nassau Coliseum before the basketball team was moved to New Jersey in 1977. Now they will be, as the Barclays Center is dubbing it, "two teams reunited in Brooklyn."

On Wednesday night several players exchanged jerseys prior to tip-off between the Nets and Milwaukee Bucks.

The Islanders are moving in the right direction, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said on WFAN Tuesday afternoon.

"I think the Islanders' prospects are strong," he said during an interview with Mike Francesa. "They?re putting together a good, young team and they?re moving to a state-of-the-art arena. Even thought it wasn?t specifically designed for hockey it will certainly improve things for them and their fans."

The franchise is coming of its most successful offseason in quite some time. General Manager Garth Snow improved the Islanders at every position that had holes. He brought in goaltenders Jaroslav Halak and Chad Johnson to shore up goaltending. Snow added Nikolay Kulemin and Mikhail Grabovski to add more scoring, and traded for top-4 defenseman Nick Leddy and Johnny Boychuk.

Lawrence Frank, former Nets head coach and current team employee, is expected to join the L.A. Clippers coaching staff.

Frank served as Nets head coach from 2004-2010. He was brought back to the organization last season to become an assistant under Jason Kidd. Despite being signed to serve as a mentor to the rookie head coach, he was quickly reassigned to administrative work after difficulties between Kidd and himself arose.

This marks the second former New York basketball head coach Doc Rivers has brought in to join his staff. Earlier this?off season, former Knicks head coach Mike Woodson was named an assistant.

Tonight, the Nets head to the American Airlines Arena to take on the two-time defending champion Miami Heat. Brooklyn will look to earn a regular season sweep of Miami after winning the previous three matchups this season.

Miami is the only legitimate playoff contender left on the Nets' remaining schedule, so tonight could be a tune-up game for both teams before the postseason gets started.

Before the 2013-14 NBA season began, the Heat had won the last 13 consecutive matchups between these two teams. But with a win tonight, Brooklyn would earn a four-game season sweep against Miami for the first time since the 2002-03 season.

As the regular season draws to a close these next couple of weeks, the NBA postseason is almost upon us. For the Nets, the postseason will bring an opportunity to write the final chapter in this roller coaster 2013-14 season.

Earlier today on the site, Brian Erni ran down the pros and cons of Brooklyn matching up with the Toronto Raptors and the Chicago Bulls. One of those two teams will in all likelihood be the Nets' first-round opponent when the playoffs get underway.

One way or another, I think that whoever the Nets play, it's going to be a fun series that has potential to be one of the better matchups in the first round this season.

Tonight, the Nets return home to host the Sacramento Kings at the Barclays Center. Home is where the heart is, and for Brooklyn, it's where the wins have been as well. The Nets have won six straight at the Barclays Center, and their 12-2 home record since January 1 is among the league's best in that span.

A win would tie the Nets' season-high of seven consecutive home wins, and they're looking to earn a season-split with the Kings, after Brooklyn lost in Sacramento 107-86 back on November 13. However, the Nets are a different team today than they were in that previous matchup, and a recent trade with these Kings is a factor in that.

In that blowout loss in Sacramento early in the season, Marcus Thornton scored a game-high 24 points off the bench for the Kings. The young shooting guard has had a roller-coaster season of highs and lows, leading to a trade to the Nets a few weeks ago.
