NEW YORK -- The Calgary Flames are staying afloat during a six-game Eastern Conference road trip. They will try to close the trek out in winning style Monday when they face the skidding New York Islanders at Barclays Center.
Both teams are coming off losses. Calgary fell to the Philadelphia Flyers 5-3 Sunday night, while New York dropped a 3-2 decision to the Sharks in San Jose on Friday. The Islanders return home to open a brief two-game homestand.
The Flames already ensured themselves of at least a .500 trip (3-2-0). They enter play Monday two points behind the Nashville Predators and Dallas Stars in the race for the final Western Conference wild-card berth.
The New York Rangers, who have won just twice in their last nine games, face the Calgary Flames on the road at 10 p.m.

Tonight will be the first game of a back-to-back for the Islanders. Up first is the Calgary Flames (33-24-4).
The Islanders (40-20-2) have gone 3-1-0 in their last four games against the Flames at the Coliseum. The Islanders defeated Calgary earlier in the year in a 2-1 victory in January. John Tavares scored twice in the win.
Halak has appeared in 45 games this year?with the Islanders and has compiled a 32-13-0 record. In his last start, Halak allowed three goals against and the Islanders lost 4-0 to the Vancouver Canucks. One thing the Islanders coach staff has begun to do is to monitor the number of starts they give Halak down the stretch.
"It will be one of the things we manage," Islanders' head coach Jack Capuano said. "Chad [Johnson] has been playing real well for us. Obviously you don't want a goalie to sit too long, but we had three games this weekend. We discussed it last week that Chad will go two out of the three.
