The New York Red Bulls announced several roster moves heading into the 2017 season.

Sean DavisChris Duvall, and Justin Bilyeu had their contract options picked up. MLS leading scorer Bradley Wright-Phillips also had his contract option exercised.

Defenders Karl Ouimette and Ronald Zubar did not have their options picked up. According to Sporting Director Ali Curtis, the team is in negotiations to bring back Zubar next season.

In their 1-0 win over the Montreal Impact, the New York Red Bulls had to deal with a full bunker for the first time in over a month. The Impact stuck as many as 11 players behind the ball and relied on long balls and counter attacks in an attempt to neutralize the high press.

However, the Red Bulls were prepared to face a tight defense, as they have many times this season.

The New York Red Bulls back line cannot stay healthy.

Just as Damien Perrinelle makes his return from a long-term injury layoff, Gideon Baah sustains a fractured tibia and is ruled out for the rest of the 2016 season. This leaves the Red Bulls with three healthy center backs on the roster, which is hardly enough to deal with the combined schedule of MLS and CONCACAF Champions League matches.
