Bruce Berlet writes that Chris Kreider, in his pursuit of finishing up his degree from Boston College, is doing an independent study project on Collective Bargaining Agreements and labor negotiations.

Kreider said that he has no set deadline for the project but it will come down to a "pretty extensive paper."

Kreider told Berlet that Canucks goalie Corey Schneider did a similar project when he was a freshman at BC about the 2004-05 lockout.

In the Boston Herald, Steve Buckley writes about how the situation Chris Kreider is in reminds him of the situation that former Ranger Tony Amonte went through in 1991.

Amonte signed with the Rangers following Boston University being knocked out of the playoffs:

Decked out in his new clothes, Amonte was put on a plane to New York, then driven directly to Madison Square Garden, where he made his NHL debut in the Stanley Cup playoffs. The Hingham native went on to play 15 seasons in the NHL, scoring 416 goals.

Chris Kreider had two goals last night in Boston College's win over Air Force.

Following the game BC coach Jerry York praised Kreider's competitiveness in the NY Times,

?I think he?s an outstanding athlete. He rises to the competitive level. He?s had a tough stretch here as far as points in the last 10 games, but his play has been pretty good. But tonight, I think two goals, it?s a testament to his competitiveness. He?s shown us that over the three years.
York also praised the kind of person that Kreider is ?I love how he just talks about his linemates making a good play. He?s a pretty humble kid. But he?s had a history of having really good tournaments, so we hope it continues.?

At ESPN Insider, Corey Pronman lists five Ranger prospects that the Rangers could trade for Rick Nash.

He lists Tim Erixon, Chris Kreider, Michael St. Croix, JT Miller and Dylan McIlrath.

  • On Erixon, who Pronman is a big fan of, he says that Erixon projects to be a shutdown defenseman who can play against the other team's top players.
  • On Kreider, Pronman writes that he is looked at as a top six goal scorer with first line potential.
  • On St. Croix, he quotes a scout as saying, "He's the player this year I thought he was going to be last year." St. Croix is a brilliant playmaking forward with great upside and could have the potential to be a top-two line scorer in the NHL.
  • On JT Miller, Pronman says that he is a versatile player with no noticeable weaknesses.
  • On McIlrath, he says that after struggling to start the season, McIlrath has "been a bone-crushing defenseman who scares the life out of opposing forwards every shift."
It is believed that the Rangers would prefer to send prospects to Columbus over roster players in order to acquire Nash.

Chris Kreider said that he came to Boston College as a raw player who looked for scoring chances and neglected other parts of his game. He told College Hockey News that the coaches at BC really helped him grow his game into being more complete.

BC assistant captain Paul Carey said that Kreider does it all

?The goals are what you notice, but there?s so many little things that Chris does. Someone has to be in the corners winning the battles, someone has to be killing penalties and doing all the little things you need to win, and a lot of times that?s Chris. You don?t see that, but I think a lot of our goals and scoring opportunities come from Chris? work.?
These are just words but they come from a teammate and a player with a leadership role on the team. Everything that you hear about Kreider whether it's from teammates, the Rangers or independent people is almost all positive. He is off to a nice start this season and will hopefully dominate the NCAA's the way we think he can.

"What I really want to focus on now is my consistency," he said. "I think that's the most important thing and with that just kind of improve on everything that I have been improving on. I almost sounded like a broken record whenever I said that I've got to do the 'little things'. But I think I've figured out what those were and I think I've improved on them a lot."

Kreider to NYRangers.com

Kreider had 15 goals and eight assists during the 2009-10 season and 11 goals and 13 assists during the 2010-11 season at Boston College.

This is from his "20 Prospects in 20 Days" feature, which I will have more on tomorrow, and felt like this was a good quote to break out of the article. Kreider is going to be a really good player for the Rangers. A lot like Derek Stepan, he "gets it" and understands the game and how he needs to be better. I don't think that Kreider has played his best hockey at BC so far, like he has in the WJC's the past couple of years. He seems ready to bring his "A" game this season, work more towards his degree and then become a pro hockey player next season. He is 20 years old. His development isn't going to be stunted because he didn't play with the Whale this season.

At Newsday, Arthur Staple spoke with Chris Kreider who said that he is unaware of the fans clamoring for him to join the Rangers next season:

"Really? This is the first I'm hearing of all that," he said. "I guess it's not too tough to stay away from that."
Over the weekend, Kreider told Staple that he didn't think he was ready to play in the NHL yet.

Most of that chatter has seemed to slow in the last two weeks as people have gotten to see Kreider play against men and have had the chance to nitpick his game. Some have even started to turn on Kreider. I am not one of them and I think that Kreider is still a highly skilled player and a big part of the Rangers future.

Kreider has said before that he wants to make an impact when he he turns pro.

At the United State of Hockey, Chris Peters writes that he believes the Chris Kreider is ready to turn pro. He also lists a reason for why Kreider should stay at BC:

Another year to round out his game, and be the go-to guy on his team won?t hurt Kreider?s development a bit.
He compares the situation to Blues defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk, who stayed in college for his junior season and stepped into a big role with the Avalanche this past season before being traded.

The Rangers says that they will respect whatever decision that Kreider makes. Boston College announced last month that Kreider was returning.

Kreider doesn't want to just make the NHL, he wants to make an impact on the NHL and I don't think he'll make the jump until he's in a good position to do just that. In his mind, if he waits to turn pro, he'll be in a better position to be an integral part of an NHL team, a difference maker, someone who can show you what he's capable of every single night instead of a prospect plugged into the lineup who only shows flashes of brilliance every now and then.
Earlier this week Kreider was named MVP of the Beanpot Tournament and John Tortorella said that he wanted him to turn pro.

?I?m not sure if (he?s ready for) the National Hockey League, and even next year I?m not sure if it?s the National Hockey League if he does turn pro. But I think the sooner that you get into that grind of the American League, if that?s where you start, the better, because that?s where you learn to play the game. It?s a different game than college hockey. And I can understand. I don?t get into the personal matters as far as education. I think education?s important. I think this is a family decision. But as a coach, we want to sink our teeth into him as quickly as possible as far as getting him into a situation, to a Ranger, as quickly as possible.

...There was talk around that Kreider could leave Boston College when his season ended and maybe join the Rangers for the playoffs but that doesn't make sense and won't happen. For one, the playoffs aren't the time to teach Kreider who to play within John Tortorella's system, and while he might be able to step right in, the Rangers will have gone to battle with a group of guys who deserve to be there with them in the playoffs.

Watch Kreider's goals last night here.

The Boxford native, who was once a standout forward at Masconomet Regional, has always elevated his game on big stages. In those aforementioned 11 one-and-done games, Kreider has scored five goals, nine points and the Eagles are undefeated.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound winger has 39 points (22 goals) in 61 college hockey games, an average of 0.64 points per game. In those 11 "do-or-die" type games, though, that average hikes to 0.82 per contest.

...I root for Kreider and hope he tears up the score sheet with his play, but my college hockey allegiance is for Boston University where I will always think, "what if" for my college choice. Still, if someone has to beat BU, I hope it's Kreider. Though if he does leave to sign with the Rangers this summer as is expected, I hope BU takes it to BC for a while.

Yesterday, Chris Kreider and Boston College advanced to the NCAA Hockey Championship against the Wisconsin Badgers.

Kreider, the Rangers first round pick in 2009 was interview by Hockey's Future before the game. In the interview, he talked about his fellow Rangers prospect Derek Stepan of Wisconsin:

We?re pretty good friends. I actually had the chance to play with him at the Rangers development camp over the summer. I didn?t really play on the same line with him at the World Juniors, but I know that whoever plays with Derek will get a lot of points because he can move the puck better than else that I?ve played with. We?re really good friends off the ice and it seems like I see him everywhere too. (laughs)
...I am excited about Kreider. All I hear from people who know him and have seen him as that he is a great person off the ice and fastest guy on the ice. Still a few years away, but the future with Kreider is exciting.

The news for Rangers prospect at Boston College, Chris Kreider, continues to be raving. Despite not starting the season as hot as all the accolades that surrounded him, Kreider has now hit full stride, scoring in nine of his past 11 games - the latest goal coming in an OT thriller against the University of Massachusetts - and has really emerged as a force in BC's lineup. Two of those goals have been game-winners and he's on a five game point streak.

The goal came with "Special K" (as he's becoming nicknamed) utilizing his blazing speed to reach the left side of the crease and tip-in a pass from his teammate.

Kreider now has 13 goals and 5 assists, along with +18 plus/minus in 30 games played. BC has a record of 20-10-2.
