The Knicks are hampered during upcoming free agency because they are only willing to hand out one-year deals to protect 2012 cap space for the free-agent bonanza. Signing a player who gets through the new amnesty process may be an alternate solution.

Two names who have popped onto the Knicks? radar as potential amnesty casualties are Warriors 7-foot defensive center?Andris Biedrins?and Heat small-forward sharpshooter Mike Miller, whom the Knicks coveted during free agency in 2010.

We mentioned Haywood yesterday. It's hard to speculate until the players get released then the frenzy begins. But what is absolutely 100% clear, and I've talked to several key people about this, the Knicks will NOT add salary past this year as they prepare to try and land Chris Paul or another big free agent.?

The Nets positioned themselves throughout the last two years as potential suitors for star players and their hard work landed them the opportunity to sign Deron Williams long term.

What the Nets did a great job of is selling themselves to the media, and more obviously the Denver front office, as real players in Carmelo Anthony sweepstakes. This created essential leverage for the Nuggets.

As we attempt to look past the CBA, and try to begin to speculate what is on the other side of the cliff, let's think about this.
