Clint Sintim

Former New York Giants linebacker Clint Sintim has retired from professional football, according to USA TODAY Sports.

Sintim, who has not played in the NFL since 2010, was the 45th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft in 2009. A series of knee injuries hindered his ability to earn playing, then was waived in the pre-season by New York last summer.

Sintim, 27, finishes his career with 33 tackles in 24 games.

SNY Insider Mike Garafolo is reporting this morning that LB Clint Sintim, a two-time ACL tear victim, has apparently been released by the team. Sintim has been on PUP since the beginning of training camp:

On Wednesday afternoon, Clint Sintim sent out an ominous-sounding tweet.

"Change is inevitable....That's (a part) of life," the Giants' linebacker wrote. "How a man responds to change ultimately defines his character...as always...#DontCountMeOut!"

Ohm Youngmisuk's tweets that Clint Sintim has a ruptured patella tendon "to start with," according to Tom Coughlin. This is a season ending injury, and it could put Sintim's career in jeopardy. ?It is the same knee he injured last season.

If you saw the injury, you knew immediately that he was likely done for the season...unfortunately we've seen this injury way too often in recent years. Add to it the fact that he was wearing a Giants uniform, and this recent unfortunate news is no surprise.

It's a sad story, as Sintim now faces an uphill battle to play football again, as recent history suggests he may not be ready for the 2012 season.

Steve Smith is headed to IR due to the knee injury that he suffered late against the Vikings. DE Alex Hall has already been added to the 53 man roster to take the place of Clint Sintim and obviously another addition is forthcoming.

Mario Manningham on the other hand is perhaps doing better than expected and just may be able to return for this week's crucial matchup. While he will probably be limited in practice this week, he is reportedly far from ruled out of Sunday's contest.

More coming as we get it.

Giants Have A History Of Finding Gems In Round Two Of Draft

In the new millennium, the Giants have done well with some of their first-round draft picks (Jeremy Shockey, Eli Manning (via a trade) and Hakeem Nicks), but the reality is they've gotten more production out of their second-round? selections.

Many first-rounders have been either washouts or have yet to emerge.? William Joseph never made an impact on the DL and is long gone.? DE Mathias Kiwanuka is starting this season, but he's been slow to develop.? CB Aaron Ross can't seem to stay on the field and? S Kenny Phillips' future is uncertain.

This year's top pick, DE Jason Pierre-Paul has arrived to mixed reviews.? Some experts say the sky's the limit, while others have panned the pick mercilessly.

Giants' OLBs Looking For Fresh Start in 2010

Michael Boley came into Giants' camp last season with high hopes.? He had just signed a five-year, $25 million free agent deal to help bolster the Giants' shallow LB crew.

But things didn't shake out well for Boley once he became a Giant.? Last June, he had to have surgery to repair a torn labrum in his hip, which kept him off the field all summer. Then he was suspended for the first game of the season by the NFL for violating the league's personal conduct policy.

Early in the season, Boley injured his knee, causing him to miss four more games.? In the 11 games he did play, he had 84 tackles, but on that decimated Giants' defense his efforts were hardly noticed.

Greetings from your newest Giants football blogger! I?m Patricia Traina, Editor of Inside Football, an accredited, independent publication that covers the New York Giants. From time to time, I?ll pop in to share tidbits, observations, quotes, and other goodies that I collect from my visits to Giants central. I hope you enjoy what I have to offer in the way of information!

For my?first blog, here is a quick snapshot of how I thought the Giants? 2009 draft class looked during this past weekend?s rookie mini camp.

WR Hakeem Nicks: The first rounder came as advertised ? very polished. He?s not very tall, but he plays ?big.? He?s not afraid to go into traffic and he has good concentration, especially in traffic where he successfully used his body to shield the ball from the defender.
