With the 77th installment of the NFL draft now officially in the books, seven new faces?excluding UDFA?s?join the defending Super Bowl champs hoping to accomplish the same feat in 2012. While all of the Giants? draft picks can?t be pegged as surefire starters in the fall, they are sure to have an impact over the next five months as roster sizes are cut from 90 to 53.

Here?s how the newest class of rookies fit in:

Notre Dame Will Face Army in the Bronx on Saturday Night
In a blast from the past, the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame will play host to the Army Black Knights this Saturday in the first football game ever at the new Yankee Stadium.

Sure, it's not like the old days, but what is..? Army is no longer a national football power and Notre Dame has been slipping, but that has not tempered any of the excitement here in the New York City area.

The game will be televised on NBC, but that has not deterred fans from buying tickets, which are in high demand this week.

Notre Dame is in the midst of a down season, the first of the Brian Kelly era.? They lost to Navy - again - this year, and have been overly disappointing in most of their other games.

This week, that all took a backseat when 20-year-old student Declan Sullivan, a team videographer, was killed when the scissor-lift he was filming from was toppled by high winds.

Many are pointing to Kelly, who made the decision to practice outdoors during a wind storm.

Georgia Tech coach Paul Hewitt will interview Wednesday for the St. John's coaching vacancy, according to a report on the New York Post's Website.

As reported earlier Tuesday by SNY.tv, Georgia Tech granted St. John's officials permission to speak with Hewitt about its coaching vacancy.

"They've asked for permission and permission has been granted," said Georgia Tech spokesman Mike Stamus.

NEW YORK -- Florida coach Billy Donovan seems more focused on trying to land stud recruit Brandon Knight than he is on becoming the next coach at St. John's.

Despite a published report?to the contrary, St. John's AD Chris Monasch has not contacted Jeremy Foley, his counterpart at Florida, for permission to speak with Donovan, a St. John's spokesman said.

"I am very happy here, and we have a very good team coming back next season," Donovan told Lenn Robbins of the Post in a text message. "St. John's has a great tradition, and I have great respect for that program."

ENGLEWOOD, N.J. -? Dontae Johnson doesn't keep a calendar or a daily planner with him, but with all the events he's involved with at the Pennington (N.J.) School, you would think he should.

Johnson, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound senior, is a captain on both the football and basketball teams. As a safety, he holds more than a dozen Division I scholarship offers in football and said he has narrowed his list to Stanford, NC State, Maryland, UConn and North Carolina.

He will also serve as a hall proctor for the second year in a row, and this year he opted to join the Peer Leadership Program. Oh, and he maintains a 3.7 grade point average, too.

I got a chance to speak with new Big East Commissioner John Marinatto last week at Big East Football Media Day. Here are his thoughts on a few topics:

**ON THE NEED TO WIN A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP IN FOOTBALL

"It would be nice. It would certainly be nice if we won a national championship. I think every conference would love to do that."

With No. 4 Oklahoma and No. 2 Florida both winning in blowouts Saturday night, the two teams appear headed to a showdown in the BCS National Championship Game Jan. 8 at Dolphin Stadium.

So much for Rutgers playing an undefeated Ball State squad in the Motor City Bowl. Dec. 26.

Turner Gill's Buffalo team hammered previously unbeaten Ball State, 42-24, in the MAC championship game Friday night in Detroit. Somewhere David Letterman is not laughing.

Ken Hoffman, Executive Director of the MOtor City and International Bowls, had said Thursday that a matchup between an unbeaten Ball State, No. 12 in the BCS standings, and a Rutgers team on a six-game winning streak would be appealing in Detroit.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Oklahoma was ahead of Texas in the BCS standings Sunday and headed to the Big 12 championship game with an inside track to the national title.

A three-way tie between Oklahoma, Texas and Texas Tech atop the Big 12 South standings forced the league to use its fifth tiebreaker, best BCS rating, to determine which team will play Missouri on Saturday in Kansas City, Mo.

The Sooners (11-1), who lost to Texas 45-35 in October, barely edged the Longhorns. Oklahoma has a .9351 BCS average. Texas' BCS average is .9223.

Texas Tech football coach Mike Leach gave some pearls of wisdom to an underclassman on where to take a girl on a first date in Lubbock. Among his gems: take her to a steakhouse so she doesn't eat salad; coffeehouses with "bizarre-looking characters going in and out" make for good conversation; and, if it's a HUGE night, you can wind it up "trading computer schemes."

After three weekends of college football, some things are becoming clear across the nation. The stock of some players, teams and leagues is up, while that of others is clearly declining....

WHO'S UP?

Mark Sanchez -- USC QB threw four TDs when Trojans routed Ohio State -- again -- on a national stage on Saturday night. This is the third straight time Ohio State has been embarrassed in the big game, including two flops in the national title game.
